Obama’s Kansas speech: some suspect facts (Three Pinocchios rating)
Washington Post ^ | 12/06/2011 | Glenn Kessler

Posted on 12/07/2011 8:33:55 AM PST by Qbert

Channeling his inner Teddy Roosevelt, President Obama on Tuesday gave a feisty speech in Osawatomie, Kansas that sought to rebut Republican arguments that he is waging class warfare...[Snip]

We’ll leave the politics to others, but how accurate were some of his facts?

“I mean, understand, it's not as if we haven't tried this theory. Remember in those years, in 2001 and 2003, Congress passed two of the most expensive tax cuts for the wealthy in history. And what did they get us? The slowest job growth in half a century...[Snip]

Inserting the words “for the wealthy” was interesting phrasing by the president, since he suggests these tax cuts were intended to only benefit the rich.

[Snip]

But the 2001 tax cuts also included tax changes that benefited the middle class, such as a reduced marriage penalty and expanded tax credits...

[Snip]

Obama’s claim of the “slowest job growth,” in fact, includes the loss of jobs under his administration. The White House provided as evidence a report on a New York Times blog...

[Snip]

But, since the recession ended, job growth as been even more anemic under Obama—just 40,500 jobs a month...

[Snip]

...it seems odd to keep blaming poor job growth on the Bush tax cut, especially because Obama himself pushed through a nearly $1-trillion stimulus and took other actions that have affected the economy...[Snip]

Finally, Obama blames the Bush tax cuts for “massive deficits.”...[Snip]

The data showed that the biggest contributor to the disappearance of projected surpluses was increased spending, which accounted for 36.5 percent of the...

[Snip]

“Some billionaires have a tax rate as low as 1 percent -- 1 percent. That is the height of unfairness.”

[Snip]

An administration official conceded the White House had no actual data to back up the president’s assertion...

His reelect plans are clear, 2012 will be “scorched earth”! He/Democrats will pit white against black, rich vs. poor, gay vs. straight, Hispanic against whoever’s left… in a desperate attempt to reach the 270 EVs promised land. As usual the corrupt toadies media will join in. If successful he will begin his 2nd term with an embroiled, angry and depressed ungovernable country in permanent decline and turmoil! So much for “Hope’n Change”. Most of us will “Hope” we have enough “Change” in our ragged pockets to subsist and survive another day. And Obama will be off to the links again.

Obama is such a liar, it is amazing that anyone continues to listen to a word this liar has to say. The local news TV coverage of Obama’s Osawatomie visit was nauseating, btw. They could find anyone to say a negative word about Obama. Amazing since his approval rating in KS is about 30%.

“embroiled, angry and depressed ungovernable country in permanent decline and turmoil!”

Pure Saul Alinsky. Demolish everything, destroy trust, remove hope, enhance fear and uncertainty. Then “allow” the wretched people to come to you (central government in this case) to fix everything in a correct, socialist, democratic way.

Remarkably similar to the fantasies of Charles Manson and Healter Skelter.

The face of an ugly scourge on America.

Anyone who votes for this evil man deserves to suffer the consequences, and they most assuredly will as the money runs out. Look at Greece and see the Democrat future for the USA.

Somewhere in that speech Obama stated that Americans work better collectively rather than independently - I can’t find the exact spot in his speech...but isn’t that remark forgoing a free society?

I was in the hospital recovering from colorectal sugery. Who-dah-thunk that Obama would still be around!

As I listened I remembered that Teddy was annoucning his canditacy for President. He was leaving the Republican Party, adopting a Progressive agenda and named his new party the:

BULL MOOSE PARTY!

Obama was emulating Teddy with one exception.

He would name his perty the:

THE BULL SHIT PARTY!

The local news media in Honolulu is slobbering about him being here again for Christmas. For some reason they still talk about him like he’s a local boy even though his rhetoric, pronunciations, and speech patterns just reek of Chicago including the way he pronounces the ‘ah’ sounds more like the “a” in apple. Listen to how he pronounces “congress” next time - cang-ress.

I don’t remember slow growth until the Bolshecrats took over Congress and DumBO’s immaculation decelerated it.

If he gets re-elected, 2013 is when the real “change” will begin- complete rule by Executive Order and agencies. Right now, he has to feign that he cares about the so-called “middle class” and the economy in order to get re-elected... after Nov. 2102, that mask will come off, and there will be no repercussions for any of it (especially with the hapless Republic leadership in Congress).

It won’t be pretty.

The report from the local media on his trip:

Stella got his groove back...its ‘just like 2008’....’he is back’...and, of course, it was a ‘keeper’, a ‘speech for the ages’.

Once again, the media are convinced that a speech will re-vitalize Obama. Especially since it was so historically significant (to beltway types who care about Teddy Roosevelt and history professors who have heard of Osawatomie).

Also, the local libs are furious that our Republican Governor (Brownback) did not attend this campaign event.

I predict little to no ‘bounce’ from this ‘landmark speech’.

Seriously - his strategy is still speeches and blame Bush, and the media are thrilled.

If he gets a second term, he won't have anything to restrain his agenda--his goal by the end of his second term would be to make it impossible ever to restore the America of 1789 to 2008.

The Democratic talking points of the last 11 years have been all examples of the "big lie" technique (the Bush tax cuts were for the wealthy, Bush lied about weapons of mass destruction in Iraq, etc.). For why that technique works, see Mein Kampf.

What, Brownback passed up a chance to be publicly taunted or insulted by The One? Maybe he has heard about how Obama has treated Republicans invited to other events.

This is a good analysis but it still drives me batty that people don’t get that by 2007 the USFG took in 2.7 trillion dollars in revenue. That is far out of reach today.

We are lucky if we take in 2 Trillion a year since that time. It is empirically false to say the tax cuts COST. They did briefly create a short term reduction in income to the treasury but it did soar in 2005, 2006, and 2007.

I am disappointed this article left that key revenue ingredient out of the discussion.

Has anyone commented on the irony of Barack Obama repairing to Osawatomie, Kansas in search of a historical figure with which he could identify?

Obama attempts to borrow the luster of president Teddy Roosevelt but the place will forever be connected with "Osawatomie John Brown." It was at this place or nearby on Pottawatomie Creek that John Brown murdered several people before committing another act of terrorism at Harpers Ferry Virginia.

The irony is that John Brown was hanged for treason.
