Democrat says GOP trying to deny blacks the right to vote
The Hill ^ | December 7, 2011 | Pete Kasperowicz

Posted on 12/07/2011 10:25:31 AM PST by BradtotheBone

A Democratic lawmaker said Wednesday on the House floor that Republican legislators around the country are purposefully trying to deny blacks the right to vote by pushing for voter identification laws.

“It’s no coincidence that a disproportionate number of these affected voters come from communities of color as well as the poor, the elderly and students,” said Rep. Barbara Lee (D-Calif.), a former chairwoman of the Congressional Black Caucus.

“Having been born and raised in Texas, this certainly looks like a poll tax to me, which those of us remember as a way to prevent African Americans from voting. These voter ID laws have a partisan agenda: seeking to disenfranchise and deny specific populations of voters before they have the opportunity to elect their representatives in government.”

She also said the laws are meant to change election outcomes by “turning the clock back to the days of Jim Crow.”

Lee is the latest Democrat to charge that laws requiring people to show a valid ID to vote are aimed at suppressing the black vote to get better results for Republicans in the 2012 elections. Republicans including Rep. Steve King (R-Iowa) have said ID laws are needed because there are several examples of voter fraud, such as the discovery that ACORN was registering non-legal voters.

Don’t lie. Proving you’re eligible to vote is not a poll tax. Further, Dems want the unregistered and illegals to vote because they are an importamt part of the Demonrat constituency.

"There is a class of colored people who make a business of keeping the troubles, the wrongs, and the hardships of the Negro race before the public. Having learned that they are able to make a living out of their troubles, they have grown into the settled habit of advertising their wrongs-partly because they want sympathy and partly because it pays. Some of these people do not want the Negro to lose his grievances, because they do not want to lose their jobs."

Republicans need to respond loud and clear. Democrats are turning the US into a third world country with massive voter fraud. Asking for ID and that a citizen only vote ONCE is not disenfranchisement, it is protecting the rights of all Americans. I am sick of my vote being nullified by Democrats voting multiple times ot illegals voting.

Voting is the foundation of this country. Any POS that feels they have a right to try and fix an election should be hung for treason, IMHO. Do that once or twice and this crap will stop.

Silly Dems, they have it upside down. What they REALLY mean is they don’t want a good man who is black (CAIN) in a position for ANY votes whatsoever....black OR white.

“Republicans including Rep. Steve King (R-Iowa) have said ID laws are needed because there are several examples of voter fraud, such as the discovery that ACORN was registering non-legal voters.”

They Democrats don't necessarily want the people they sign up to vote. The just want the names registered with a big D. Then they order absentee ballots for all they have registered, and vote absentee for the ones they have signed up. The dead, those in institutions, and the ones who can't speak English always seem to vote for the Democratic nominee. That's one of the reasons that the turnout in large cities is over 100% of the number of registered voters. They love the expression, “Vote early and vote often.”

Anyone believe the RNC is up to fighting back? We have Coburn, Will and Hume, FOX, and conservative media going gentle on Romney, and the RNC calling for no attacks of a personal nature against Obama, in a leaked conference call yesterday.

Who is up to fighting back on our side? Where is OUR war room and battle strategy??

We are going to get caked early, I see, if we keep the Duchess of Queensbury Rules as our usual playbook, and our field generals are the namby pamby aforementioned, who are propping up the Alpha Male Romney.

God be with us.

There is a very simple answer to this argument: If the requirement to obtain an official ID card places a financial burden on specific minorities, then why not encourage the local Community Organizing groups to provide such things as documentation guidance and rides to them. After all, that’s what COs have always said they are there for...to help.

I need ID to get a fishing liscense. Guess with killin’ fish it is somehow more necessary to know my identity than voting for President of the United States. Got it... Hey, this is the Dems logic.

All I want for Christmas is one GOP POTUS candidate, or sitting Congressperson to to call BS on this race baiting every single time it’s played.

Conservative blacks don’t seem to have a problem providing an ID. Does that mean they are smarter than liberal blacks?

I don’t know what she is complaining about.

America elected a half black President without a valid ID.

What more could she want.

To hell with these morons... I’d rather they riot and see how that works out for these ‘woe is me’ lowlifes.

If you can’t ID yourself, you have no business casting a vote that could change my life and destroy my country.

Bring it... please.

This is all just a misunderstanding. The Republicans are passing voter ID laws, not voter IQ laws.

Voter IQ laws would indeed supress the Democrat votes.

Most medical services also require a photo ID these days. I have been advised that I need to present one with my insurance card when I check-in or at the first appointment.
