Obama isn’t this stupid. His point isn’t that technology destroys jobs, at least not in the long term, but that it creates dislocations that can be hard on people, which is true. From this he then argues that the government needs to step in to help, either by redistributing wealth or creating make-work jobs or supporting the unions or whatever. And I would guess quite a few people would find this argument — which is his real argument and where his real disagreement with conservatives is — convincing. The writer is busy beating a strawman while Obama is out using a much subtler fallacy to win people over.
If it were not for us, China would still be a nation of coolies.
But fortunately, we came along.

Yes,....it is all technology's fault. Access to technology is a privilege and should only be available to the elite. Just looks at the chaos technology has generated in the world this past year.

A lot of the “technology took our jobs” is the result of the government making those jobs unsustainably expensive. What with a proliferation of expensive regulations and rising minimum wages, the job still needed doing but not at that price...

The president is responsible for everything that goes on in the White House simply because "it happened on his watch." But to say that the president isn't responsible for what he himself says, irrespective of who wrote it, is to give a whole new level of meaning to the word "fatuous."
It is still Washington's Farewell Address, and I don't care if Alexander Hamilton wrote it. Because if it was just "Hamilton's Essay," nobody would now remember it. Washington gave it authority by delivering it.
