Weve been told that President Obama is a graduate of Columbia University and Harvard Law School, where he was the president of the Harvard Law Review. Anybody who gets into Columbia and Harvard has to have some smarts. Then please tell me why he often sounds so stupid.
At a stop in Atkinson, Illinois, the President spoke about the need for education at an agricultural company named Wyffels Hybrids, Inc. He said that America is no longer a place where you can just work hard and thereby find a good job. Actually, just working hard has never been the ticket to finding a good job. That aside, he went on to say some stupid things. He may have a degree in law, but it looks like he didnt take a single course in history or economics:
One of the challenges in terms of rebuilding our economy is businesses have gotten so efficient, that, uh, when was the last time somebody went to a bank teller? Instead of using an ATM. Or, used a travel agent instead of going online. A lot of jobs out that that used to require people now have become automated.
In June of 2011, the President followed a similar script when he was interviewed by NBC News:
There are some structural issues with our economy where a lot of businesses have learned to become much more efficient with a lot fewer workers. You see it when you go to a bank and you use an ATM, you dont go to a bank teller, or you go to the airport and youre using a kiosk instead of checking in at the gate. So all these things have created changes. . . .
Yes, there have been changes similar to when the automobile was invented and put buggy manufacturing and related industries out of business. But the automobile industry created many more jobs than the buggy business ever could have created. In addition, the automobile cut down on horse pollution and the diseases that came with it.
The natural gas industry opposed the electric light because it would cut into their near monopoly of the in-house lighting business. Again, electricity and the lighting business are multi-billion dollar business today employing tens of thousands of people. Then theres the added safety benefit that comes with electricity.
The movie industry worked hard to stop the production of video tape recorders. They argued that it would hurt their theater business. It didnt.
Obama mentioned travel agencies. Yes, many of them went out of business, but new businesses were created out of their ashes. There are a plethora of travel options all over the internet that compete on price. Consumers are the beneficiaries. More jobs were created.
When I got into the publishing business, the first book I wrote was done on a typewriter. The typed pages had to be retyped for an electronic typography machine which had replaced lead type, which had replaced wooden block type, which had replaced painstakingly copied and expensive written books that only the wealthy could afford.
This all changed with the computer and desk top publishing. Many, maybe even most, typography shops went out of business, but publishing became less expensive. The process of getting a book from conception to the press was laborious and expensive the old way. Now a book can be typeset in hours and sent electronically to the printer in seconds. Beyond the printed book, books can be downloaded and read as PDFs or any number of eReader formats. Think of the jobs that have been created by the Nook and Kindle.
My wife and just got back from Nashville. One of the places we went was The Mall at Green Hills. The busiest store was the Apple store. It was packed. There wasnt a store selling type writers, record players, or vinyl records. All these industries have nearly been put out of business. Environmentalists should be happy. Selling digits is less environmentally damaging than producing vinyl records and CDs. By the way, we didnt pass a single typesetting shop or business selling typewriters on our way to the mall.
Heres a comment by an Obama automaton that I found on a website where he responded to an article about the Presidents comments on job losses and technology:
Technology is TAKING our jobs. What jobs exactly has technology created? Im not talking about the rare computer geek, Im talking about for regular folks who worked as cashiers, for teenagers, for guys who drove forklifts? There needs to be a special place in hell for Republicans who are so hell bent on defending the rich you have forgotten about everyday people.
The same could have been said about Gutenbergs helpers or those who worked for the local buggy whip manufacturer. The neo-Luddite asks, What jobs exactly has technology created? It would take me all day to list them. The fact that he’s using a computer is one of them.
PING!
My getting layed off last year wasn’t due to technology - it was due directly to something Obama did. He went for that swim in a part of Pensacola bay that wasn’t affected by the Gulf oil spill to send a message to the Coast Guard that crisis was over. Our contract was cancelled, and I was layed off after 26 years with my company and 38 years as a software developer and data analyst.
I actually assign little blame to him. The ignorant voters, a majority, had ample facts to see that Obama was a disaster well in advance, and they put him in office. Obama preached socialism, and they elected him. Obama had no experience, and they elected him. Obama was a radical tied to Ayers and Wright, and they elected him. We need some serious re-education in the basics in America.
Keep in mind that the POTUS doesn’t write his own speeches, it’s the peggy noonans he’d hired that do. Sure (or not) he reads them beforehand and approves of them, but it is his staff of dedicated socialists or communists who come up with the phrases to satisfy their own ideologies and their boss’.
Mr. Teleprompter is complaining about technology?
“Obama Blames Job Losses on Technology”
Wonder if he’ll blame the teleprompter when he loses HIS “job” in 2012.
This is about ethnicity, not race. Some ethnicity’s have the ability to adapt and some don’t. We’re carrying those who don’t and we’re tired and they’re uncomfortable.
“Technology is TAKING our jobs. What jobs exactly has technology created? Im not talking about the rare computer geek, Im talking about for regular folks who worked as cashiers, for teenagers, for guys who drove forklifts?”
China has gone through absolute hell trying to rise above being a nation of coolies. And this ignorant piece of crap is literally trying to pursuade his audience trade places with them.
I worked in the lumber industry for over 35 years and it went through many changes, all of them for the better, and where some jobs were removed there were always new ones created. The industry thrived until the greenies ran it out of business, or nearly so, with the frickin' spotted owl lie. All judges who went along with that crap should be in jail. Talk about killing jobs.
The truth, that the Bozobots don't see, is that regulations are what are killing the jobs, not technology. Bozo knows this but he also knows he needs to lie his a** off in order to keep his base in line.
If that doesn't work, outlaw shovels and pass out spoons.
(One of the challenges in terms of rebuilding our economy is businesses have gotten so efficient, that, uh, when was the last time somebody went to a bank teller?)
Well yesterday and today as a matter of fact.
But then I pay an electric bill a gas bill a water bill a mortgage a car payment etc. All things that the President does not do.........
“.. the automobile cut down on horse pollution..”
But Obama is filling the void with Horse S***
This is a human fault, not a melanin fault. It seems the only ones who don’t have grievance groups are white men. But maybe that’s only sporting of the white men who know that if everybody has a grievance, civilization goes irreversibly galley-west.
NO, I lost my job because of the erosion of others jobs and the non profit income disappeared. Two years later, I am now on disability because i fell and fractured my spine. I am still unemployed, ill, and trying to recover so I can subject myself to more job searches and after entering 3k of applications with only two interviews, I want to cry.
Since I have a political science degree from American University, statements like this are familiar to me. It is Marxism 101. Every Marxist prof I had back in the day told me that the death spiral of capitalism was accompanied by advances in technology which would create a vast impoverished class without work.
Of course, those reporters covering him also know this - something else I know about, since I was in the print media for 20 years. We talked about it when discussing politics. It’s one of the reasons I’m here.
The guy is a communist, pure and simple. God help us.
Today’s liberals are regressives.
They pine for living in tents in the mud.
Never heard of Galley-West. Looked it up but still didn’t get a good idea, other than cockeyed. Something to do with impressing sailors? Knocking them out?
History will record that a true moron was passed off as brilliant by a deceitful media.
You could throw a dart into a phonebook and come up with somebody more competent that Obama.
