Perry had a deeply personal involvement with Rodriguez and went out of his way to destroy Steven Wayne Smith, a model Conservative jurist. These are not the actions of a "Conservative" Governor, but a liberal with a personal agenda and axe to grind, out for revenge. What was the quid pro quo for the appointment of a leftist Democrat to a job for which he was woefully unqualified for (and unvetted) ? Why did Perry become obsessed with defeating a good Conservative ? These are many of the reasons why Perry has no business in high office, especially the Governorship. What has been asked and answered is why every living former Texas SC justice endorsed Smith’s opponent in 2004. The justices and the voters agreed with Perry.
