A man pulled a gun and shot a teenager in the buttocks Thursday after the teen punched him in the face, police say.
No arrests have been made yet. Police are still investigating and could seek assault charges against the man and the teen, said Katie O'Sullivan, a spokeswoman for the St. Louis Police Department.
The incident began when the 46-year-old man got into an argument with the 18-year-old male. The teen punched the man in the face.
According to a police summary, the man told police he "feared for his safety, so he took out a gun and fired one shot."
O'Sullivan said the man who fired the shot had a permit to carry a concealed weapon.

This is how all Knockout King games should end, except, you should aim a bit higher.

Aim higher?
Naw. The other side.

I grant a lot of leeway in situations like this. The shooter would want me to serve on his jury.
But I have to say: shooting someone in the buttocks does weaken the self-defense excuse.

I'd plead that the punch to the head might have impaired my judgement and aim. That would make the punch the proximate cause of the event

The shooter did the right thing, even if the assailant was fleeing. The trouble is, he was fleeing when shot, so the victim will no doubt end up in more trouble then the perpetrator.

Man. This, on both sides, is far too ambitious for most people.

The teen should have said “kiss my ass” more respectfully, that’ll learn him.

Maybe he’d had extra-spicy bean burritos for lunch that day...

It may not look good for the shooter, but we have to remember that “shot in the buttocks” doesn’t mean the teenager was running away. Watch any fight. People lose their balance, get spun around, turned around, etc. It doesn’t mean they’re running away or giving up the fight. The shooter could still have been very much in danger from the younger man.

According to some police I have spoken with, it is not usual for a perp to be shot in the back area. They sometimes will turn as the gun is being fired.

What is the difference of getting sucker punched in the face vs. shooting someone in the ass? Bring a fist, I bring a gun. I win! Game over.

"Knockout King" is when a total stranger cold-cocks a total stranger without warning.
These two people were not strangers.
This is two people escalating an argument.

Who cares where he shot the punk? Do you think you would have time to aim in a situation like this? CCW carriers are instructed to aim for “center of mass”. Maybe the shooter misheard. Anyway, it’s textbook self defense.

I just hope this ass learned a lesson

That ain’t the way it works here in Texas. Here it’s a justified shoot and kudos to the shooter.

Watch any fight. People lose their balance, get spun around, turned around, etc. The assailant can be hit in buttocks from the 90° angle which is present in most of these poses. This can be doubly so if the assailant is lefty and the victim is righty (or the other way around.)
