Tell President Obama to Clean Up Toxic Mercury (Liberals Target Coal)
CARE2 Petition Site ^ | 12/10/2011 | Loud Mime

Posted on 12/10/2011 12:30:00 PM PST by Loud Mime

Every year, coal-fired power plants produce more than 386,000 tons of hazardous air pollutants -- including mercury, arsenic, lead and acid gases. Mercury, a potent neurotoxin, is a particular threat to pregnant women and young children.

The Environmental Protection Agency has announced plans to issue strong, sensible protections from power plant pollution on December 16th of this year. Unfortunately, industry special interests are trying to block this critical safeguard.

Tell President Obama to strongly support the EPA's efforts to clean up mercury pollution and protect the health of mothers, children and families.

This is an email that I received from a liberal group that has foreshadowed several coming attacks by the liberals. Please don't cry when you read all its appeals to emotion.

Hi friend,
Every day, Care2 members are my inspiration to tackle challenges. You have shown that when we all band together to create change, we can accomplish amazing things. Over the years I've asked you to take on huge issues, and today I am asking you to take on one of the world's biggest problems -- dirty coal energy that poisons the environment, and us.

My children are healthy, which I am grateful for every day. But those of us who live near coal plants or down-stream from a waste site may not be so fortunate. Just because of the food we eat or the water we drink, one in six pregnant women has enough mercury in her system to put her baby at risk. Mercury causes damage to the brain and nervous system, which can lead to developmental problems and learning disabilities. All we want is for our children to be able to grow up healthy, but for some people this is completely out of their hands. That's unfair -- and we can fix it.

The good news is, you can help. We have until December 16 to speak up and support the EPA's plans to better protect families like yours and mine from mercury poisoning. There are some powerful business interests (with a lot of money) who want to stop these protections. But if the entire Care2 community stands with the EPA, that's millions of people whose voices can't be ignored.

If not, you can smoke your cancerous cigar to your heart's content, enjoy your tax breaks and not care for everything that is good.

How are they going to stop all those volcanoes from spewing out more mercury than mankind puts out globally?

We don’t have the money to further increase standards against emitters of pollution. When the economy recovers, and America is on sound financial footing, then we can talk about more ways to increase costs to consumers. Right now, we should be cutting regulations on producers of power. In life, there is inherent risk. Live well, and be happy. The minute amounts of things in our water and air, will not harm you.

We get more mercury from China than our power plants produce.

The river below me carries Mercury form the mountains to the flat land. It can not be cleaned up as it is natural occurring. Lets get rid of Mercury light bulbs that the ecotards are so fond of. How many people died in China for the ecotard dream?

All together now everybody- Let's shut down the mean old powerplants, but the mercury in the kids' vaccinations has been proven to be beneficial!

This crap is much less about cleaning up the environment as it is with the Marxists trying to spread their own failed life misery to the masses.

Natural sources like volcaneos or vents on the bottom of the ocean dump about 4400 tons of mercury in the air each year.

China’s coal and oil fired power plants dump around 440 tons of mercury into the air each year.

US coal and oil fired power plants dump around 40 tons of mercury into the air each year.

Forest fires also dump around 40 tons per year.

Cremating humans dumps around 32 tons per year.

EPA’s new regulations on logging roads will result in a decline in logging which will in turn lead to massive forest fires and more mercury being dumped into the atmosphere.

Libs are really evil and dumb.

I agree with the article to a point. No coal? Then start building nuclear plants and drill for more nat. gas and oil. Mercury problem solved.

They’re running that idiotic commercial with the coughing baby pram sitting outside these plants. They seem more concerned with the plant than a baby being abandoned by a coal plant./s

The EPA is not serious about mercury poisoning in children until they outlaw the mercury filled light bulbs flooding our country from China=== that will contaminate not only every home and every family, once we are all forced to use that product—but every stream and every landfill and every water supply.

They are allowing millions of those unnecessary light bulbs to not only destroy American industry, but to contaminate every single home—suppose it is their MO to destroy private property rights—once all homes are labeled as hazardous waste site and all our children have IQ’s of 60.

What about the mercury still in vaccinations mandated for people....they still haven’t eliminated all of that toxin which destroys the minds and creates mercury poisoning symptoms—exactly the same symptoms of Autism and affecting boys at higher rates because of Testosterone—same rates as mercury poisoning.

(Note: there are Scandinavian studies which PROVED the removal of mercury from vaccinations correlated with the reduction of Autism. Such a “surprising” result( WHICH WAS SUPPRESSED BY OUR GOVERNMENT for years) after taking out a known dissolver of brain cells from vaccinations—how logical!!!!)

I guess you have to start somewhere in condemnation—but Government agencies are the reason for the poisoning in the first place. We have to have laws that are JUST and don’t protect corporations from liability and the problem will take care of itself-—if we don’t have corrupt judges.

That goes for liability restrictions against these vaccination companies which are unconstitutional and use kids as guinea pigs.

Ban the future contamination—the mercury filled light bulb—then I will know EPA is serious about the children and support “EPA”.

Wall Street Journal, December 5, 2011:

If the Lights Go Out: Regulators are letting EPA compromise U.S. electric reliability

Keep in mind that the EPA estimates that the benefits to society from the mercury reductions in the utility rule max out at $6.1 million, total, while imposing $11 billion in compliance costs annually. That is a crazy tradeoff even if it didn't endanger the electric grid.

On top of the 38 gigawatts of generation that is already being run below normal levels or slated for early retirement, NERC predicts another 36 to 59 gigawatts will come offline by 2018, depending on the "scope and timing" of EPA demands. That could mean nearly a quarter of all coal-fired capacity.

Incandescent Light Bulb = zero Mercury

CFL “green bulb” = way too much mercury to throw away and get into the water supply

Thank the Greenies

EPIC FAIL 2012

The mercury agenda of the EPA has already begun in Texas. There are claims being put forth by EPA funded studies that Texas reservoirs contain mercury due to coal and gas generated power plants. It is believed the mercury allegations are in retaliation for Texas lawsuits against the EPA for trying to force ridiculous carbon emission regulations on Texas.
