He preys on women with sick, vicious stealth.

An armed serial rapist who has attacked three times in southeast Queens in the past two months has been caught on shocking video surveillance pouncing on his latest victim — a 22-year-old woman whom he grabbed from behind Wednesday and dragged by her neck down the street.

But the hooded monster’s 2 a.m. strike near 154th Street in Jamaica was ultimately foiled by a pajama-and-slippers-clad single mom of six who lives nearby and ran to the aid of the screaming victim, authorities said.

“[The victim] was saying, ‘Please stop! Please stop! Don’t hurt me, don’t hurt me!’ ” resident Lashanda Vickers, 28, told The Post yesterday.

“I went right to my kitchen and grabbed a big kitchen knife. He was grabbing her . . . and said, ‘Shut up or I’ll kill you!’ When he saw me standing there, she [got] away from him.”

Ms. Vickers is a genuine hero. She should get an award from the city. Unfortunately, she'll probably be charged with brandishing a knife instead.

Yeah for LaShanda. A lot of people won’t intervene. She’s got courage.

Our country needs a lot more Lashanda’s. She needs the donation of a pistol and some shooting lessons; some ammo also.

In New York City, it is considered one’s civic duty to die at the hands of a mugger rather soil one’s own hands with a firearm. I am only just barely kidding.

I would like to have Lashanda Vickers as a neighbor.

She appears to be a better person than the typical Yankee, a retired government employee, who move to Florida.

If she stays up there, she needs our prayers.

Ms. Vickers should receive a medal for heroism.

This story plus all these very positive comments make me think of something I’ve pondered before. I’m wondering if perhaps completely informally, when Freepers see someone admirable in the news (especially when that person is possibly in a lower economic bracket), we might do something for that person? Either together, or individually. The name “Lashonda Vickers” is rather unusual and indeed, doing a search, it appears that she is fairly easy to find. see: http://radaris.com/p/Lashanda/Vickers/

So what do you think? Is anyone interested? And what would be good? Yes, a pistol and lessons would be good (but good luck getting a permit there, as I understand it). What about simply something like a gift certificate to someplace useful like Walmart or Target? (Or someplace else that is easy to access in Jamaica, NY.)

It just seems to me that if we want courage, neighborliness, etc. to proliferate, it’s not a bad idea to encourage it. A person like Lashonda obviously doesn’t have to be paid to do the right thing. She stepped right up to the plate and did what was necessary. But OTOH if she reaps the rewards of her good deed, would word get out and influence anyone else?

I’m not sure what I really think on this issue. This is just an idea. I’d like feedback, if you care to provide it. Thanks!

If Lashanda had taken lessons from Lorena Bobbit, the world would be a better place...

I am sure the city council will correct the oversight in the law that allows citizens to have kitchen knives.
They can call it “The Mugger, Rapist & Killer protection act of 2011”

Here is her amusing quote from the article ““I’m glad I could [help her]. I have little daughters. And I had that big ol’ knife!”

Good on you, Lashanda!

Word has gotten out, since we have learned of it.
I hope it will influence all who read of her actions to look for a way to pass it on...
