DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) -- Republican presidential hopeful Newt Gingrich says he is being factually accurate when he calls the Palestinians an "invented" people and says they are the creation of anti-Israel propaganda.
Gingrich's chief rival for the presidential nomination, former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney, says the former House speaker has made a mistake in the description and has made it more difficult for Israelis and Palestinians to negotiate toward peace.

Romney’s comment is unsurprising, but still disappointing. If he thought it would help him get traction with Conservatives, he’s wrong.
Things that are true need to be stated clearly even if they are not politically correct.
Not a fan of the Newt, but i do respect him standing by what he said. Maybe this is the a positive step toward drowning the Politically Correct agenda that has really gotten out of hand.

Newt Gingrich is right in his statement about them being an ‘invented’ people. There is no such thing as a Palestinian people; the people that call themselves Palestinians are, for all intents and purposes, in language, genetics and culture, ARABS.
Yasser Arafat was not a Palestinian, he was an Egyptian.
Romney’s point was that we shouldn’t throw fuel on an already raging fire by claiming the Palis are invented, but as Newt said, Israelis are getting lobbed with Kassam rockets daily, so how could you possibly make their lives any worse by telling the truth about the lie that is the Palestinian people?
In the last paragraph of the article, Newt says a candidate needs to stand up and call the Palestinian leaders “terrorists.”

Gingrich is right. The Palestinians were taught by the Nazis during WW2 on terror tactics, kicked out of Jordan, and nearly every single country they have been in.
Many decades ago, the term "Palestinian" was being applied to Jews, even.
On the other hand, things are what they are and there's little point to oppose the creation of yet another Arab state called Palestine if it can be made non-terrorist. (Did I say IF?)
It’s has always failed there. I just wish one of them, any one of them said they would no longer be sending taxpayer dollars to the “invented people”. It’ insane to continue. Also cut of their migration to the US as well. Something Zero and GW set aside money to do.

Gingrich always rubs me the wrong way. That aside, he called this one correctly- whether it needed to be said is up for grabs.

I was thrilled by Newt standing up for the people of Israel in his Reaganesque truth telling about the murderous Palestinians in the debate tonight.
Like the bombastic Churchill who was dismissed until the crisis of war propelled him to national leadership, I can’t help but think that Newt is going to surprise us with providing exactly what we need to get us back into shape.
After watching him dominate in the debate again, I am proud to be a Newtonian.
