Mitt Romney’s $10,000 debate bet will haunt him forever
SFGate: Politics Blog ^ | 12/11/11 | Joe Garofoli, Chronicle Political Writer

For as long as he lasts in the prez race, Mitt Romney is gonna regret offering to make a $10,000 bet with Rick Perry at Saturday night’s GOP debate. Why? Because only rich guys make $10,000 bets. The rest of the world says, “Betcha five bucks.” Or “betcha a beer.”

But not Mitt, the son of an auto company CEO/Michigan Governor. Guys like Mitt, who is worth north of $190 million bet $10,000.

If you missed the moment — or, we hope, have enough of a life that you weren’t watching a political debate on a Saturday night — Texas Gov. Rick Perry again accused Mitt Romney of altered a later edition of his book that pertained to the individual mandate for health care. Independent fact-checkers have shown the Perry’s claim is WRONG.

But instead of just again sticking to the facts, Mitt went into Flustered Mitt Mode. You know, when someone dares to challenge the CEO, even with the wrong facts:

“I’ll tell you what. 10,000 bucks? Ten-thousand-dollar bet?” Romney said to Perry.

“I’m not in the betting business,” Perry replied.

The whole “Bet” was idiotic to begin with. I have no idea what Mittens was thinking and Perry was smart to not take the bait

I think the bet was a bad move...but from a historical perspective can it even come close to a candidate referencing 57 or 58 united states he’s visited?

Much ado about nothing.

The media is just setting the scene by trying to convince people this is an issue.

Meanwhile the country is crumbling, we are on the edge of an economic and cultural abyss, Obama is working hard to finish his destruction of the USA and expand the rule of militant Islam.

But the media spends their time attacking and demonizing republicans at every turn.

MEDIA VETTING OF REPUBLICANS VS. OBAMA

Who cares about Mitt's 10K bet.

With all the real things to go after Mitt about, this is a waste of time.

I agree. This bet challenge is all about image, and Romney's isn't good. Nobody will remember what the kerfluffle was about, but they will remember who the high-roller was.

Some say Obama wants Romney, because he will fit like a glove into the class-warfare anti-Wall street hate campaign allegedly being planned for next year. If that all comes to pass, we will hear more about this big money bet later.

IIRC, Romneycare does have an individual mandate. We are studying the difference between islam and Christianity in our adult Bible class (LCMS) congregation and Mormonism is next.

One question came up today about this "bet", and I said mittens was going to be chastised by his church. WELLLLLLLLLLLLLL, one of our members who has studied the Mormon teachings said that it was just like islam. You can tell a "lie" if it is for the betterment of the religion.

This idiot is a disgust that he has to use the (R) behind his name for political advancement. I couldn't squeeze my nose tight enough to vote for him.

I’m not saying that Willard is toast. I’m just saying that all the available data supports that claim.

You know Rick Perry doesn’t like Romney, and vice-versa. So..... it’s gotta be satisfying for Perry to.... accidentally..... drive the final nail in Mitt’s political coffin. Go Newt!

Bull, 10,000 is chicken feed in the business world, do you know how much a corn combine costs. I would say not, hell a nice diesel pickup, and if you do not have one you are not jack in Iowa, cost 60000. Dang. Years ago when I bought homes as speculation I was betting more than that each time.

Mitt Romney fouled up my life, the life of my children, and the life of their children forever with his acquiescence to a stealth Socialism under his watch.

Call me a radical curmudgeon.

This guy has no business whatsoever running for President.

I’d vote for the Zero before I’d vote for the Mitt and that is never going to happen.

Every spring when a farmer plants a field he is betting on good weather other wise he will lose a heck of a lot more than 10,000. And sometimes he loses.

See, I agree with you, plenty of reasons not to vote for willard, but the silly bet is not one of them, perry was lying and deserved the smack down.

I did not even see the debate as it happened.

Romney's willingness to go along with the criminal empire up at Be-A-Con Hill by downtown Boston (near where I was raised) is my problem.

Romney is a menace that folks cannot see from the Internet.

I do not want the moderators to give me the boot for speaking more plainly than this.

I could though, I guarantee you that.

He should have said he would bet a months worth of EBT credit and he would have been a hero.
