Gov. Jerry Brown on Tuesday ordered $1 billion in midyear cuts to California's budget that will result in pain for students who rely on school buses to get to class, mothers who depend on child care subsidies to keep working and support programs for the developmentally disabled.

Brown, a Democrat, said that the state's revenues will fall about $2.2 billion below the $88.4 billion he and state lawmakers had hoped for when they passed the budget last summer.

The announcement was not surprising and could have been worse. The state's legislative analyst had predicted revenues would fall $3.7 billion below forecast.

Still, the automatic midyear reductions sparked outcry from advocates and invited lawsuits from school districts.

California’s anti-business policies are chasing the producers out of the state. It is no wonder there are shortfalls in the revenue.

From my observations of the morons at the “occupation” sites, I don’t think cuts affecting “students” is going to hurt anything. They aren’t learning anything in school anyway.

A California Politician Speaks the Truth! (May 30, 2009)

Nearly all of the billions of dollars in cuts the administration has proposed would affect programs for poor Californians...

“Government doesn’t provide services to rich people,” Mike Genest, the state’s finance director, said on a conference call with reporters on Friday. “It doesn’t even really provide services to the middle class.” He added: “You have to cut where the money is.”

Well if all that is so important the state employees won't mind giving up some of their pensions so the students, poor and disabled don't take such a big hit.

Strange how 20 years ago taxpayer money made it all the way to the students, poor and disabled instead of being spent on endless bureaucrats and their golden pensions.

It should be hitting the multi-millionaire, retire at 52; police-prison guard-teacher-park ranger-forrester-lifeguard-fireman.

Just slightly?

Even a little bit?

Are they going to miss $100 per month that much?

Then the students, poor, disabled would not have to take a hit.

That's not the whole truth.

There's also the layers of union bureaucrats and their pensions to pay... They serve themselves first and then the public.

$1 billion in midyear cuts to California's budget that will result in pain for students who rely on school buses to get to class, mothers who depend on child care subsidies to keep working and support programs for the developmentally disabled.

The taxpayer can only do so much.

Blame the unions.

Their is an unholy alliance between unions and politicians. The unions spend hundreds of millions to get their politicians elected. Then the politicians, who are owned by the unions, turn around and negotiate union contracts and, of course, give them everything.

The Left has chosen to sacrifice school buses, child care subsidies and support for the developmentally disabled in order to increase wages, benefits and pensions to unionized state workers to ridiculous levels.

When benefits and pensions are included, unionized state workers make more than twice as much as the average California worker.

Why should the average Californian taxpayer already making substantially less than the average state union worker be forced to pay for their ever-increasing union wages and benefits?

It is out of control. It has put an impossible burden on our federal, state and local governments.

It is the politicians beholding to their union masters who have *chosen* to spend their state tax revenues on union wages and benefits instead of on the people of the state.

It is a whacked out system that needs to be fixed. In the meantime, we don't want to hear the whining of the politicians who created this mess.
