Newt Versus the Ruling Class
Townhall.com ^ | 12/14/2011 | Brent Bozell

Posted on 12/14/2011 1:46:16 PM PST by Servant of the Cross

The media elite and the Republican ruling class are remarkably similar in their political projection for the coming year. Journalists spent the entire year savaging every fast-rising challenger to Mitt Romney. The GOPs power pundits became equally agitated at the sniff of a conservative anywhere near the top of the GOP pack. It's the odor of extremism that both the elites in the media and the GOP have detested -- always.

So here we are, on the cusp of the election year, and both these groups have one primary target: Newt Gingrich. Both are using the same ammo: Newt is too unstable, immature, flawed and arrogant. Or as power pundit Peggy Noonan put it, Newt is "a human hand grenade who walks around with his hand on the pin, saying, 'Watch this!'" The Washington Post's political cartoonist drew him as a suicide bomber. (snip)

The ruling class is losing control of its senses. Maybe, just maybe, the country class has found its champion.

The irony is... if they hadn’t destroyed all the alternatives the conservative vote would of split and Romney may have been able to win it in a squeaker.

They even manipulated the calendar to move Florida up and make it winner take all ... just to help Romney...

and now it’s all backfired.

The conservative vote is squarely behind Gingrich and Gingrich is massively ahead in Florida :)

poor little Mittens

Newt may be a loose cannon, but at least he is firing at the right target: Obama. The rest of the field is firing at each other.

“IBNH (In Before Newt Haters.)”\

Once they get past their moral outrage and Newt has a garrote around B. Hussein,s neck and his lips are turning purpler, they’ll remember why we like Newt for the job at hand. He didn’t push through the Contract and become Speaker of the cutthroats by being a pushover. I know Boehner wakes up every morning hoping the polls are wrong...

They are against Newt because they just so happen to have already been in the bag for Romney. This in no way reflects on whether Newt is also part of the establishment (psst, he is).

Newt is a progressive not a Conservative and Newt is a D.C. insider not an anti-establishment candidate. Good gosh Newt is the GOP establishment. You don’t get more establishment then Speaker of the House. Outsiders are not getting $30,000 per hour for “strategic advice”. Outsiders are not getting $60,000 for showing up and speaking at political events. Yeah D.C. out sider, anti-establishment Newt, yeah right.

Great analogy. Here’s your prize. Presidential horse-race- scroll down to read what was happening during the race.

I think a lot of people here are doing exactly what we did in 2008. They tried to convince themselves that they liked McCain even though they knew he wasn’t the “straight-talking maverick” he claimed to be. Same thing with Gingrich...most are trying to convince themselves he’s really conservative when we know he’s not.

Just to prove how important it is for us to vote the Marxist and his evil cadre out of the WH next November I am willing to vote for CFR member Newt McCain. Why he doesn’t like right wing engineering is beyond me.

Duh, how do you remove a former speaker from claim of membership in the ruling class, people were not paying him millions in lobby fees because he was skinny., no they were paying for access.

If Newt were a career political ‘insider’ he would still be in Congress. He was re-elected by his Georgia constituents just before he stepped down as SOH and left the House of his own accord. Commenting on his departure, Gingrich said, “I’m willing to lead but I’m not willing to preside over people who are cannibals. My only fear would be that if I tried to stay, it would just overshadow whoever my successor is.”

Using his political experience as a consultant - after leaving office - was legal. He also wrote books and lectured. What would you have done?

“Newt may be a loose cannon, but at least he is firing at the right target: Obama. The rest of the field is firing at each other.”

Right on. When Newt does fire the cannon it is aimed at Obama. The other Republicans candidates are part of the circular firing squad.

America's Ruling Class - And the perils of a Revolution is the American Spectator article that Bozell mentioned.

The Lost Decade (Courtesy of America's Ruling Class)

Angelo M. Codevilla wrote both. They're long, but I enjoyed them.

That’s only because congress has exempted themselves from all of the laws.
