VIDEO: Rick Perry: I want to be the Tim Tebow of the Iowa caucuses

Via Breitbart TV, a clever wink at the social-con constituency he’s now counting on to put him over the top. And not only in Iowa, either: Given the Tebow love around here lately, I think this dude might have just locked up the next Hot Gas reader poll.

Actually, I think Perry might be the Trent Dilfer of the caucuses: Terrible, yet somehow still ultimately the winner.

I loved it when he talked about Tebow! Hopefully, he will be the Tebow of the candidates!

I thought it was a pretty good moment for Perry. But the author stating that he might instead be “the Trent Dilfer” of the caucuses — ouch, that hurts.

I am a Newt supporter but I do believe Perry is a good man. He also mentioned something about going after Newt on consulting when they should be going after CONGRESS. He appeared to be more of a uniter tonight and I liked that

"“There are a lot of folks that said Tim Tebow wasn't going to be a very good NFL quarterback. There are people that stood up and said, 'Well, he doesn't have the right throwing mechanisms, or he's not playing the game right,' " Perry said. “And he won two national championships, and that looked pretty good. We were the national champions in job creation back in Texas. And so, am I ready for the next level? Let me tell you, I hope I am the Tim Tebow of the Iowa caucuses.”" -- Rick Perry

I guess you're much like the Left in that you don't get that Christian Conservatives take notice of people who reflect who we are. Tebow has drawn our attention and we respect and admire his commitment to our faith in the face of National criticism. What exactly do you not get about Governor Perry being a man of Christian faith who has been drawn to Tebow and finds him someone to admire and hope to live up to?

Considering Mitt's history with dogs, I guess that makes him Michael Vick.

It's not the first time he has defended Newt. Newt wrote the forward to Perry's book and they seem to be friends. Newt has also credited Perry to opening his eyes about the 10th amendment.

But unfortunately, he’s actually the Jim Everett of this campaign...i.e., falling down without anybody sacking him.

Its hard not to like Rick Perry and he’s so darn good looking. I’m sticking with Newt but I’m OK with him or Perry. I would not cry if either of them wins the nomination. I just think Newt would take on Soetoro better.

I'd just like to see more substantive talk about the issues, not wasting time and pandering to invoke the names of saintly football players or what not.

Well, if La Raza Rick wants to be like Tebow, then every time he gets ahold of a microphone, or winds up in front of a camera he will need to pray and tell the folks he is talking to about God’s plan of salvation through Jesus Christ.

If he has no intention of doing that, then no he doesn’t want to be even remotely like Tebow.

Yeah he will be the Tebow this week (playing New England). Heard the guy on Cavuto today and he can’t speak a complete sentence. Nothing personal, but guy can’t complete a thought

In order for him to be the Tebow of the group, it would mean that the Branco’s have to win the Superbowl and it is unknown that they will even get past Green Bay. I would NOT compare myself to a football player not even finished with the Season yet. Had Tebow won the Superbowl this year, then yes compare yourself but why compare yourself when we don’t know the result yet. Doesn’t make sense. I like Tebow. However this is going to open up football players to be able to use whatever religion they want on the field. I wonder who people will feel when the Muslim football player brings out the magic carpet and prays to Allah every touchdown. I guess he will get full support on Free Republic since Tebow has opened this can.

Yes and the Muslim next year who gives a high five to Allah will be acceptable too I guess. Football should just be about playing a game. You watch this will bring out all the religions. That is my only fear about all this Tebow stuff. Yep I am Catholic so I appreciate the Christianity but on the field? It is just going to open up a lot of stuff that we may not want.
