Russian scientists have discovered hundreds of plumes of methane gas, some 1,000 meters in diameter, bubbling to the surface of the Arctic Ocean. Scientists are concerned that as the Arctic Shelf recedes, the unprecedented levels of gas released could greatly accelerate global climate change.
Igor Semiletov of the Russian Academy of Sciences tells the UK's Independent that the plumes of methane, a gas 20 times as harmful as carbon dioxide, have shocked scientists who have been studying the region for decades. "Earlier we found torch-like structures like this but they were only tens of meters in diameter," he said. "This is the first time that we've found continuous, powerful and impressive seeping structures, more than 1,000 metres in diameter. It's amazing."

Maybe the methane is the reason the ice is ‘receding’ in that area rather than a byproduct of it?
How do they know the methane hasn’t been bubbling up before?
They don’t.
Maybe if we pass some legislation and issue some fines against the Artic ocean, we can get it to stop? < /s>

Is there any possible phenomenon that these "scientists" will not say contributes to climate change? My goodness, several months ago someone wrote a paper about global cooling caused by Chinese coal plants, and said it would contribute to global warming.

Gimme a freakin’ break. It has been doing that before man walked on the earth. The permafrost layer traps biogenic methane gas coming up to the surface. The Libtards want to blame everything under the sun (no pun intended) on man-made global worming. The jig is up for these communist wealth redistribution scamists!

If its 10 times worse than CO then why not drill and capture as much of it as possible then burn it?

I have a circa 1850 book about the oceans and methane and the stuff getting into the atmosphere. It is far from new. What is new is the guesstimatess of what should be. And the concept of knowing the amount of methane as related to the universe is an absurdity.
Anyone recall Phil on Deadliest Catch saying when he saw bubbles coming up from the seabed that it was crab farts and he would set his crab pots right on them. Apparently the Russians don’t know about this.
The hysterical thing is that suddenly CO2 is way better than methane. Meanwhile the most prevalent green house gas is H2O and not a blessed thing anyone is going to do about that.
