A 6-year-old boy struck by a car at Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport was listed in fair condition Sunday at Gillette Children's Hospital.
Zachary Drew, his mother and three siblings had been on his way to greet his father who was returning from an 11-month tour in Iraq with the Oklahoma National Guard, the boy's mother said Saturday.
They were crossing the ramp to the terminal around 8 p.m. Friday when the accident happened.
The little boy suffered a broken leg and nose, lost most of his teeth, and he may need reconstructive surgery on his jaw.
"This guy turns the corner and he just ran over my son and dragged him 10 or 15 feet," Vanessa Drew said. "He didn't slow down. He didn't even stop until he hit a concrete wall."
Airport officials say 61-year-old Tommy Rodriguez of St. Paul man was arrested on suspicion of criminal vehicular operation. The officers reported the man smelled of alcohol, airport spokesman Pat Hogan said.

The bad news is .. so will the drunk perp.
Drunk or not, this guy was going too fast.
It’s CHRISTMAS folks. Kids are out of school. They are everywhere.
SLOW DOWN! PAY ATTENTION! GET OFF THAT DAMN PHONE!
The last thing you want this season is to injure someone and/or yourself, ruining their lives & yours.
(These are reminders for me, too.)
Have a Safe & Merry Christmas!
A few things that irk me: drivers who drive too close; drivers who drive too fast, and pedestrians who don't look before crossing the street, particularly in parking lots.
I agree with you completely, Mister Da. May I add one to the list? Please consider how much alcohol one is drinking at parties, celebrations etc... and then getting behind the wheel. I am not against alcohol at all. I am against drinking alcohol and then getting behind the wheel of a large mass of metal and getting on the road.
I wonder if the perp was in the country legally?
you asked the question the media will never ask.
