9/ Following in the footsteps of the godlike reverence that surrounded his father, the younger Kim's birthday has apparently been made a national holiday, celebrated annually on 1 January.

...and to think I had mistaken all those celebrations for New Year's.....

6/ However, he also acquired a reputation as a student for being extremely competitive, particularly in sports, with skiing and basketball apparently his favourites.

7/ His moment in his father’s spotlight reportedly came when his elder half-brother Kim Jong-nimmed – a former favourite – fell out of favour after being caught trying to enter Japan on a fake passport in order to visit Tokyo Disneyland.

8/ A Japanese chef who used to work as Kim Jong-il’s personal chef has described the new successor as “a chip off the old block, a spitting image of his father in terms of face, body shape and personality”.

9/ Following in the footsteps of the godlike reverence that surrounded his father, the younger Kim’s birthday has apparently been made a national holiday, celebrated annually on 1 January.

10/ Soldiers across North Korea have reportedly been shown a documentary film about the incoming leader over recent months, which is said to begin with the words: “Following in the footsteps of the General, offering guidance to the troops, comrade General Kim Jong Un delivers a great blow to the enemy with the resourcefulness of his keen insight.”

I first read the above commentary as serious,...but the more I read it, the better it reads as droll, dry, English comedy. Actually, very, very, very good comedy.

Then again, is it intended as humor or reporting?

The Japanese chef’s complement,...hehehe.
