I never did understand why the yuppies have a love for this car.

Right up there with the Peugeot, Yugo, MG and all other British Leyland brands, and Renault.
A true lib would not have purchased Saab for its military ties.
After all the jokes about Saab, and ya, I’ve told a few myself, what happens to the workers? Like the guy who built Saabs for 17 years? He sure as hell can’t come to the USA looking for work in the automotive field! Where does he go? What does he do? Maybe he can come to Cleveland to the new casino and get in line behind 17K applicants trying to land one of 400 jobs?

I loved my saab. Had a 1984 900 for fourteen years. It was durable, simply-made and reliable. No fancy electronics, just a good go-car. Basic transportation and good in snow.
Have been considering getting a reconditioned one as a second car.
I am a gun toting Red Neck and a SAAB Nut.
The last real Saab was the 96 built from 1960 to 1980 I have owned over 20 of them 93's 96's and 97's. My buddies called me "Sven Svenska" just like the mythical SAAB racing driver. I love the smell of TWO STROKE IN THE MORNING IT SMELLS LIKE VICTORY. The were a well built car made to last. Richard Grossman is rolloing over in his grave

I’ve owned many of them over the past 30 yrs. Always have to have a convertible five speed for the short NH summers....when I was young, they were year rounders for me - good on gas, great in snow.
I'm from SoCal, and beg to differ with you on that. Saab has been a preferred lib brand for as long as I can remember.
My kind of people don’t drive those things. They drive American made trucks.

Mrs. RQSR, and myself are hardly what anyone could call “Libs”. We’ve been driving SAABS for many years. Currently have three, and have had as many as four at one time.
Love those cars. They have taken us through many a foul Winter through the mud, and flood of this rural area we live. They are great off road vehicles some might be surprised to find out.
Will probably buy Ford next time we need to replace a car now. Sad to see SAAB cars go, but it was inevitable when GM cheapened them up. Trashed them IMO. Even if they could get the financing to keep producing them they would have that GM instilled crappy car reputation to overcome.
I learned the fine art of three-pedal driving with that four on the tree shifter.
A damn shame Saab went the up-market yupmobile route like so many other good European makes.
Almost all companies today are going to smaller displacement turbocharged engines.
Saab did that over 30 years ago, when almost no other car company did.
Saab was also advancing front wheel drive, long before it became widespread.
Several features of Saab interiors are smart and useful.
GM has killed Oldsmobile, Saturn, Pontiac and Saab.
During that time, Toyota has started Lexus, Scion and soon to be a full brand, Prius.
The problem wasn’t inherently Saab, rather GM’s failure as a multi-brand auto company.
At GM the major strategy is badging. Badging fails, and GM needs government help.
GM couldn’t continue with Saab, when the all important Volt needed funding.
My wife will tell you her Saab was among her favorite alltime cars.

Er, that would be me. Had three of them and loved ‘em: solid, spacious, fun to drive and with the 5-door hatchback you could carry about anything.
