Berlin: Israeli Construction "Devastating" to Peace

Germany called on Israel to refrain from publishing construction tenders in Judea, Samaria, and Jerusalem saying it sends a "devastating message" for peace efforts.

"The Israeli government must be aware that the continuous announcements of new settlements convey a devastating message with a view to the current efforts and resumption of peace negotiations," government spokesman Georg Streiter told reporters.

"We strongly urge the Israeli government to refrain from inviting tenders for housing units," Streiter added.

Israel's housing and construction ministry said Sunday it would publish tenders for the construction of more than 1,000 housing units to meet natural growth needs and mitigate housing costs in the Jewish State.

According to housing officials 500 of the homes will be built in the Har Homa neighborhood of Jerusalem, 180 in Givat Ze'ev, north of Jerusalem, and 348 in Betar Illit, south of the capital.

The tenders are part of a package of nearly 6,000 housing units to be built across Israel, much to the consternation of the Palestinian Authority.

A senior source said Sunday that Jerusalem expected American and European protests, which would not be too sharp because Israel had telegraphed the move.

"We can't have no negotiations [with the PA] and also no construction," said Housing Minister Ariel Attias.

Muslims that refuse to accept Israel’s right to exist is the REAL issue that is devastating to peace . . . plus Euroweenies sucking up to the Muzzies because they are afraid of them.

But now that Israel built some houses, they are that much further away from even DISCUSSING their adamant refusal to EVER accept the existence of Israel-not-no-way-not-no-how. This is a disaster. Now look what we’ve gone and done.

They might have even reduced the number of school buses they planned to shell, but noooo. We done gone and builded us a house (hiring Palestinian workers, of course).

Germany doesn’t have to ki11 Jews this time; merely join the cacophony of praise for ‘peaceful’ Islamic destruction of the Jews.

I realize Germany often is subjected to unfair criticism for its nazi past; but certainly Germany has no business telling Jews that they may not be allowed to build houses on their own land.

Germany’s been doing this kind of “criticism” for ages. They have their own people so bamboozled by the anti-Israel propaganda, that a 2003 study had 70 percent of participants believing that Israel’s conducting a “war of extermination against the Palestinians” and 50 percent equating the IDF with the Waffen SS. So if you say “unfair” criticism, please be specific at least.

The Aasad regime in Syria continues to massacre Syrian citizens, with a death toll since March of over 5,000 — BUT THE ONLY THREAT TO PEACE IN THE MIDDLE EAST...

"Hmm. Same old line against Israel for the past how many decades?"

Same old line that half Irish O'Bama continually takes against Israel.

Same old line the British take against Israel for the past how many decades?

Same old line the US takes against Israel for the past how many decades?

Same old line the Norwegians take against Israel for the past how many decades?

Same old line the Pope takes against Israel for the past how many decades?

Shall I go on?

Streiter, you lost your right to tell us where to live in 1945.

"We can't have no negotiations [with the PA] and also no construction,"

Exactly. Israel can't make peace deal by itself. Whatever the Palestinians want, they have to negotiate for. They can't have what they want for nothing.

Unfortunately this is Obama's big screw up. First, even though Israel did hold a 10 month freeze the Palestinians didn't come to the table. When the 10 months were up, Obama then flat announced that housing builds had to stop as a precondition, even though it had never been a percondition in 18 years nor even a part of Oslo. Once he said that, Abbas couldn't appear to be less stern than the US president and the die was cast.

A year later, our moronic President then goes on to say that the deal must be on 1967 borders, even thought this goes against promises made to Israel by previous US governments. So like before, Abbas now says that Israel must withdraw to the 1967 borders before they can negotiate. He can't ask for less than the US President asks!

We have a President who is more Palestinian than the Palestinians! Hopefully the next president will set the Palestinians straight.

"The Israeli government must be aware that the continuous announcements of new settlements convey a devastating message with a view to the current efforts and resumption of peace negotiations,"..."

Yes it does.It sounds like Israel is erring on the realistic side and that those 'current efforts' and 'peace negotiations' should at the least be printed on soft, yet strong and absorbant paper.

Poor little Israel, surrounded by so many know it all big brothers.Been there, done that, still here,up yours!

So we are now back to the Soviet solution, explicitly rejected in UN Security Council Resolution No. 242. I have a solution: How many fingers am I holding up, Abbas, Ban Ki Moon, Obama?

Germany forfeited their right to have an opinion on Israel when they stole from, segregated, tortured and eradicated Jews from 1933 - 1945. Shame on them.

I am 100% on your side with your words.

Furthermore, I am 100% embarassed by this man’s words :(

This, in spite of his (quite possibly) repeating the words he has been wired to mouth by the leadership of the “magnificent and glorious” EUSSR (yes, it truly is that bad with those people meddling in the affairs of member states. Sigh...).
