Iowa is not a very good predictor... Reagan was 2nd with 30% in 1980... George HW Bush was 3rd with 19% in 1988... McCain was 4th with 13% in 2008, just behind my guy, Fred Thompson. (Huckster took Iowa with 34%). Only Bob Dole and W won Iowa and also won the nomination.

(Clinton was 4th with 3% in 1992.... That should help give some comfort to the current trailers in the GOP field.)

Look no further than party leaders' worries about the shaky Gingrich relationship with a category of Americans who may matter more than any other in the 2012 election: independent voters.

Pure, unadulterated HORSESHIT. Independents like everyone else with a reasonably functioning brain this election cycle are looking for someone who clearly understands the problem and can define a principles based solution.

Thus far, Newt's that guy. There's no one else running that's demonstrated the capacity that Newt has.

Not saying he's my favorite candidate, but I'll say this: I'd pay good money to watch Gingrich tear the current man-child in the White House to bits and pieces during a debate, and that's for damn' sure.

I can rally behind Gingrich if he wins the nomination. Can't do that for Romney, the "perceived-perennial front runner."

No more "moderates", no more "RINO's." Frankly, where else are the "Independents" going to go? They hate Obama as bad as the rest of us do. They know he's incompetent, they don't want to get fooled again.

Well HOWDY my friend! Long time no see, good to see you on here still!

Re-Locating to your part of the country in the next few years. Getting ready to 'retire' and am looking at properties down there already. Been looking outside of Austin and near Fredricksburg. Anyplace else I should be looking?

Those are both FINE locations but I’m afraid I must inform you that the other Yankees have beaten you to the prime spots there. ;>)

Just about anywhere in Texas beats anything where you currently are but I guess I’m a bit prejudiced in that regard.

I think you might find that you like the area in the triangle formed by College Station, Huntsville, and Corsicana but keep it to yourself as it’s filling up fast!

Anything west, north or NW of Austin is mostly conserative. Williamson county is a great place too.

You write like a pissy, limp wristed liberal. Gingrich won the house for gosh sakes! He didn’t “lose” any seats at all when you include and account for the huge number of seats he WON in 1994.

“You write like a pissy, limp wristed liberal.”

Resorting to insults is usually a sign of someone who can’t defend themselves in an argument. And on a side note, you have the luxury of saying that to me via the Internet. I cann almost guarantee you wouldn’t be saying that to my face.

Because I can’t and won’t defend a flawed candidate like Gingrich does not make me a liberal. That’s a huge stretch. If you’ve seen my previous posts on other threads, there’s nothing in them that a reasonable person would point to and say “MplsSteve’s gotta be a liberal”.

The facts are out there. We lost seats in the House while he was Speaker. There’s really no ifs and or buts about that. I can’t help you with your “New Math” interpretation of the real numbers.

Gingrich did do a stellar job of laying the groundwork for 1994. I’ve given him that credit in previous posts. As a strategist, there’s no one better. But as Speaker, he was lacking.
