18 December 2011 A young Bangladeshi woman, whose husband is accused of cutting off her fingers after she began a college course without his permission, has spoken to the BBC about her determination to carry on with her studies.

I think the ones here that get violent are those that lose their jobs or have a difficult time financially; otherwise they seem to be quite “normal”.

You’re trying to interpret this on your own terms, as though there is some similarity between your thinking and theirs. You can think of it like comparing fractions which have different denominators. You can’t really compare 3/4 and 2/3, but if you can find a common denominator, you can convert the data into something which can be rationally evaluated. Now you can compare 9/12 and 8/12. This works with all rational numbers. Except these beasts are incapable of rational thought. There is no common denominator between their thought process and ours.
Just accept the fact that they are defective, and leave it at that. There aren’t enough pencils in the civilized world to figure them out. What is needed here is not more pencils, but a great big eraser.
