Rep. Jackson Lee: Obama should use executive power to extend payroll tax cut
The Hill ^ | 12/20/11 | Alicia M. Cohn

Posted on 12/20/2011 2:29:05 PM PST by ColdOne

Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee (D-Texas) said Tuesday that President Obama "absolutely" should use his executive power to continue the unemployment benefits and payroll tax cut extension and said she hoped to discuss the option with the White House later in the day.

"It is extraordinary, don't get me wrong. But I'm feeling the pain of the constituents I left [at] home," Jackson Lee said, speaking on the progressive Ed Schultz's radio show. "I consider this a crisis. I consider leaving Americans without unemployment insurance for January and February a crime. I consider not extending the payroll tax cut ... a crime."

Jackson Lee slammed the move by House Republicans to call for a House-Senate conference as a "ridiculous procedural calamity."

House Republicans called for a vote on the motion Tuesday, which passed without any Democrat votes.

"This is what got thrown in our face, not even the right to regular order," Jackson Lee said, blasting House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) for not bringing to a House vote a Senate-passed bill that would have extended the payroll tax cut for two months.

"I hope Speaker Boehner will put aside the special-interest shackles, the backsliding, backstepping of his caucus," she said.

She'll have a problem when she finds out that this payroll tax "cut" is stealing from the SS trust fund.

Exactly. We live in bizarro world. The democrats are screaming that the republicans aren't robbing from social security. How weird is that?

Does anybody in her district actually pay payroll taxes.

Or collect unemployment?

Doesn't one have to actually had a job at some time to collect UE?

Most of Sheilas constituents don't even KNOW anybody who has ever had a job.

Why would 0bama want to do that when he can use the issue to bash Republicans with?

I think it’s very dubious as to whether this “tax cut” should exist in the first place. They would have been better off mailing everyone a check for $1,200, or whatever, and applying it to the deficit(as Bush did). This really isn’t a tax cut at all. It’s simply a reduction of what we pay into the Social Security fund. People’s federal income taxes haven’t went down a cent, all the while driving Socialist InSecurity toward insolvency at a faster pace.

I have read that at the height of the Great Depression there were people begging Roosevelt privately to assume dictatorial powers.

Give him credit for ignoring them. Could Barry?

“Jackson-Lee’s only qualification for sitting on the Subcommittee on Space and Aeronautics was the space between her ears. She visited JPL and asked if the Mars Rover would be able to show “the flag the astronauts planted there before”. Staffers were reportedly surprised that she didn’t complain about cost overruns on the Death Star.”

In February, Congress was debating federal spending. And Sheila Jackson-Lee got up to make her contribution denouncing a Pepsi commercial as racist. Other things that Jackson-Lee has denounced as racist include hurricanes, a balanced budget and secret service agents. Crying “Racism” is actually her only life skill.

In 2003, Sheila Jackson-Lee complained that hurricane names were too “lilly white” and said that “All racial groups should be represented.” She suggested Hurricanes “Keisha, Jamal and Deshawn”.

Last year, Lee tried to denounce the Tea Party as racist at an NAACP meeting, but in the middle of it she forgot the word for sheets, and condemned them for wearing, “uh, clothing with a name.” Which is exactly how most of the rest of Congress refers to her.

All this fuss over $1,000 a year payroll tax cut when the average family is paying more than a $4,000 a year hike in gas prices since obama has been in office.

They don’t understand anything about the law, government, capitalism, or freedom. Most of leftist Black America is fascist because they are completely ignorant of the world around them.

Sandy... that was brilliant... have you ever wondered why not a single elected republican leader or any of the republican candidates will take the fight to obama and the dims... using simple logic and truth... as you just did?! That is how you win elections... and yet they refuse... in fact the rnc demanded that they do not.

That is why we are losing the War for America!

Sheila has no need for our constitution, and is only interested is serving the interest of her political party. She would do well in communist China.

I have my moments. :-)

Seriously, we need leaders who can firmly state that the sky is blue and then clearly explain why. All we get out of our current leaders is political mumbling and sound bites.

I hope that the legislature gerrymandered that cow out of her district. I doubt it, though, because the feds require some guaranteed black seats.
