Paul, the Fringe Frontrunner
National Review ^ | December 20, 2011 | Rich Lowry

An Iowa that would select Ron Paul is an Iowa that deserves to be taken less seriously.

Republican presidential candidate Ron Paul is in a bid to make history in Iowa. Can he become the first marginal, conspiracy-minded congressman with an embarrassing catalog of racist material published under his name to win the caucuses?

In 2008, the surest way to get applause in the Republican primary debates was to excoriate Ron Paul. This year, the Texas libertarian stands much closer to the emotional center of gravity of the party in his condemnations of government spending, crony capitalism, the Federal Reserve, and foreign intervention. He brings 100-proof moonshine to the GOP cocktail party. It can be invigorating and fun, if you ignore the nasty adulterants.

The ‘rats are frequently condemned for sticking to talking points. But what about this? Looks like every “conservative” rag or talk show host is sticking to the theme that “we can’t nominate Ron Paul he’s ______ (insert crazy, nuts, racist).”

I guess they can’t let anything get in the way of mitt’s coronation, now can they?

as a primary winner Ron Paul is a dream!!

- the dream of every democrat and everyone in the WH.

With Paul in, the Republicans are out in the cold - and that sir, is a fact!.

I thought that the National Review was part of the conspiracy to keep Newt from becoming president.

Why would they be hitting Ron Paul so hard if they want him to take votes away from Newt?

The establishment has been hoping to drive Newts numbers down with all the money spent on attack ads and drive the polls up for Romney, but instead, Romney is standing still, Newts numbers dropped ...and Ron Paul is getting a bump. You will begin to see hit pieces coming out on Ron Paul more and more now.

If the GOP ran some real conservatives this time around...Ron Paul would not be so close to winning a primary

The GOP needs to dump the Globalism, the UN, WTO, EU love....you get a Ron Paul for doing that
