Higher electricity bills, cleaner air under new rules (EPA again runs amuck)
MSNBC ^ | 12/21/2011 | msnbc

After a two-month delay, the Obama administration was expected Wednesday to unveil new rules for coal-fired power plants that mean costly investments passed on to consumers, but also health benefits.

A "significant Clean Air Act announcement" was set for 2 p.m. ET by the Environmental Protection Agency. Both environmentalists and industry were gearing up for the final say on rules covering mercury and other toxic emissions from power plants fueled by coal.

Power plant operators who have trouble meeting a three-year deadline for compliance will be given some flexibility under a deal struck between the White House and the EPA, the Washington Post reported last Friday.

Citing EPA estimates, the Washington Post said the rules will cost utilities $10.6 billion by 2016 to install special control equipment known as "scrubbers."

Is it January 2013 yet??

Abolish the EPA. Just another liberal cancer upon America, and a politcal weapon of the radical left.

“...a deal struck between the White House and the EPA...”

Don’t suppose the EPA gets to cherrypick enforcement for political reasons do you?
This administration is so corrupt it’s sickening.

It doesn't matter because both Newt and Romney have been for Crap and Trade before.

I just wonder if Newt kept that couch him and Pelosi sat on?

A ‘deal’ struck between the White House and the EPA?

The executive branch of the federal government RUNS the EPA? Why would they need to strike a ‘deal’ about anything?

With New rules for coal-fired power plants, the unintended consequences will lead:

1) Fewer built,more retired plants

2) Power bills skyrocket with the media, like clockwork, labeling Big Energy as greedy rather than blame the EPA for increase in costs

3) Rolling blackouts when a surge in energy demand, extreme heat/cold in Texas for example, are unable to be met.

4) Media gets in a tizzy, calls for MORE regulation, when grandma dies of heatstroke because she can not afford AC.

5) Normal consumers drastically cutback on power leading to more increases in costs by utilities to cover sudden lack of demand.

6) OWS crowd demands nationalization of energy production in the name of FAIRNESS.

7) More layoffs/off shoring due to increased energy costs by manufacturers

8) Mexico builds hundreds of coal plants on border, sells power to states and the pollution rolls right across the Rio Grande.

9) More frauds like Solandyra pop up

10) Obama gets yet another Nobel Prize for destroying the American economy.

9)
8)

The EPA specifies the types and levels of "pollutant" that must be addressed based on the Obama folks knowing who can manufacture/supply the equipment. I'll bet dollars to doughnuts that the specifications for the equipment will result in purchases being made only from Democrat owned companies. I'll go even further to suggest that those companies have, and will contribute to the Obama campaign.

It occurs to me that most big cities are powered by nuclear energy, while the rural and Southern, Western and plains states are coal users. Isn’t this just a way to hurt conservatives, Christians, Republicans as they will bear the cost of any cap and trade like legislation while the big cities enjoy use of cheaper and cleaner energy?

The EPA is filled with sadistic, anti-human, evil human beings. The humans in the EPA relish destroying all that is good.

If we had true justice not only would the EPA be shut down, the buildings razed and the ground salted, but ALL who work for the EPA would have their pensions revoked and ALL assets seized.

The EPA is as much an enemy of our Republic as the Islamists.

“3) Rolling blackouts when a surge in energy demand, extreme heat/cold in Texas for example, are unable to be met”

TRE/NERC/FERC/PUCT will be pointing at some poor ERCOT Operator with questions like, “what didn’t you know and when didn’t you know it.”

Plumbers know the key, it all rolls down hill.

So you will be living longer, just enjoying it less?

I wonder how many people will die of illnesses exacerbated by cold and heat

since many will have to choose between eating, filling the car with gas to get to work, or heating/air conditioning

heating/ac seems discretionary but can be a real killer depending on where you live and type of house/apartment

I want to see the uS Congress wearing coats and blankets to work at their desks, like my kids are doing already

I heard that CO2 will be on the hit list. The last I heard plants still need CO2 to survive. The EPA has some good policies like no oil in the rivers etc. but some of these are just brainless ideas.

If your thinking gets to a range of reasonable, let us know. Keep throwing Newt in w/Mitt and guaranteed you will live with the EPA+ forever. Unless Mitt is your guy - because nothing else makes sense. GOP elite and the liberals are FOR Mitt - and here you are trashing Newt.

Exactly. Lots of whining and wasting bandwidth to trash the one who is willing and more than capable to take on the corruption in the WH and it’s agencies. One chance left - Newt in the primary.
