MOGADISHU (Reuters) - Somali pirates released an Italian-owned oil tanker and its 22 crew on Wednesday after receiving a multi-million dollar ransom, one of the pirates told Reuters.
...
The ransom was dropped from an aircraft in two stages, according to a pirate speaking to Reuters by phone.
"We have just received the remaining $3 million (1 million pounds) of the agreed $11.5 million ransom. We have abandoned the ship," a pirate calling himself Abdiwali said from Haradhere, one of the pirates' biggest coastal bases.

I wonder if this pirate activity will get alot worse before it gets better?
I am guessing worse.
Historically, the only solution is make them fish food.
Then they stop.
fish need to eat too!
By paying the ransom, they have endangered everybody else along with themselves.
The only ransom ever paid should be traveling at a velocity of 3,000 feet per second.
So after they get the cash, you call in the air strike, right?
This would be an excellent place to reactivate some Iowa class battleships. Every square inch of the Somali coast and 25 miles inland should be bombarded 24/7.
Too late:
How many mercenaries can you hire for 11 million dollars? Seems like it would just be cheaper in the long run to pay someone to clean the place out.
