Thomas Sowell: I’ll Take Gingrich over Romney
NEWSMAX ^ | Wednesday, 21 Dec 2011 06:05 PM | NewsMax

Posted on 12/21/2011 7:34:38 PM PST by RedMDer

Economist and conservative author Thomas Sowell says voters should disregard Republican presidential candidate Newt Gingrich’s “baggage” and support the former House speaker because defeating President Obama in 2012 is crucial to America’s future.

Sowell cites Gingrich’s solid record of “concrete accomplishments,” which he argues makes him a stronger candidate than former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney, who pushed through one of the liberal healthcare programs in the nation.
...

He concludes: “Those who want to concentrate on the baggage in Newt Gingrich’s past, rather than on the nation’s future, should remember what Winston Churchill said: ‘If the past sits in judgment on the present, the future will be lost.’ If that means a second term for Barack Obama, then it means we’ve lost, big time.”

Newt’s past is too closely tied to the present. It wasn’t 3 years ago he was carrying Nancy’s water and weight on the couch. At his age, politically opportunistic at best. If he’d done that 3 decades ago I’d have no problem.

Grant is a perfect example, a drunkard...but by God the man could fight!

He was a mediocre president later on but it is for his actions as a general that I include him as a flawed but extraordinary gentleman.

Franklin schemed to make money from everything he was involved in from the post office to printing the currency. He was loyal to the crown until it became clear he must become a patriot. And he loved the ladies. :-) He would have served as president but was simply too old by the nations founding. His worthwhile accomplishments are legion.

Churchill flipped back and forth between liberal and conservative parties, was partly responsible for some huge military blunders (Gallipoli for one) and drank like a fish. But the man was almost singularly responsible for saving the world from Naziism.

Romney in his first term is no better than Obama in his second. I don't vote to make the GOP happy but to get a candidate that serves my principals, and Romney ain't it. Romney = McCain, Dole... and the GOP will set him out there hoping that we will vote for him by default or as a protest vote. they will stir and try to inspire us with their crap and I'm staying home in that case.

Romney

I’m no big fan of Newt, but Milt, just like the Punk, let’s surrogates and commercials throw the haymakers, and then they go hide in the tall grass.
Newt did exactly the right thing, challenging Milt to a one-on-one debate, no holds barred. Milt’s refusal will prove his cowardice to voters. Bob

You say “Also fix our education system ...”

Shutting down the Board of Education was one of Reagan's campaign promises.

With all he managed to accomplish, that was not one of them BECAUSE he was coerced into taking an Establishment pick for his VP (GHWB) and for many of his appointees.

New will not. He knows their game. He was there to see it.
He will pick his own VP - and he says he'd like Col. West. (That's a ticket that would drive a lot of libs - and maybe some of the Establishment to commit Hari Kari. No way they could beat that ticket. (And he wants Bolton for his SOS.

Newt has also said he will not keep one holdover from the current regime...a big mistake GWB made.

Day one, he will fire all czars. Ben Bernake will be packing his bags.

Newt will sweep the Administation of Socialists AND Establishment - they will be relegated to the dustbins of history.

NOW - as to education: go to Newt.org for his plans on that.

http://www.newt.org/news/newt-gingrich-handout-education-college-board-forum

Excerpts:

“5. The current ideologically driven, credentialed, bureaucratic, unionized, tenured system cannot be fixed. A quarter century of effort has left children less educated, America less competitive, and our citizens less informed....

9. Parents and learners should choose the systems that work best for them.A locally-funded Pell Grant for K-through-12 would be the ideal model, with a KIPP schools-style parent-student-teacher contract.Charter schools with parental choice are a vital interim step. No child should be trapped in a bad school.

10. Parents who home school their children should receive a tax credit or be allowed to keep the Pell Grant.

11. Individualized, 24/7 learning should be universally available online, with mentors and through other learning systems. The Florida Virtual School (with over 120,000 students) for K-12, and the University of Phoenix and Kaplan are forerunners of this system. ..

“14. Every state should have a work-study college that enables students to graduate debt free, following the model of the College of the Ozarks in Missouri. [NOTE: the College of the Ozarks is over 100 years old. With their small, on campass industries, students work thier tuition as they go and graduate debt free.]

15. Higher education should become dramatically more productive and less expensive.

17. Tenure should be abolished. No bad teacher should be permitted to ruin a child’s future.”

*********
Newt knows the education system - he can get this done - with his Socialist/Establishment free administration and if we make sure to give him a super majority in both houses.

We have ONE shot to save our country and our freedoms. You can bet the forces against us will come at Newt like the Hounds of Baskerville - Romney's a mere amateur in that department.

Thanks for that 'lineup' photo - I've seen it before but didn't save it - now I have it.

We should use it often.

WE have ONE shot at saving our country with him at the helm...

But the captain can't sail the seas or bring the ship to shore alone.

We need to roll up our sleeves and get very busy - starting with our local Republican committees - the Women's clubs and the County Committees -

You're getting predictable - and you obfuscate like Romney - and you fool no one neither.

You've been given Newt's conservative record over and over - therefore to keep regurgitating that he's not conservative is Romney-Lite.
