Mitt Romney broke through the tea party barrier Monday, winning that segment's vote in a New Hampshire poll.
Romney beat Ron Paul among tea partiers, 29 percent to 21 percent, the Public Policy Polling survey reported. It was the first time Romney has carried a plurality of tea party voters, with whom the former Massachusetts governor has had chilly relations.
And in a possible leading indicator heading to Florida, Romney garnered 50 percent of the senior vote in the New Hampshire poll conducted by the Democratic-leaning PPP.
Overall, Romney was the choice of 35 percent of PPP respondents. Paul garnered 19 percent; Newt Gingrich, 13 percent; Jon Huntsman, 5 percent; Michele Bachmann, 3 percent; Rick Santorum, 2 percent; and Rick Perry and Gary Johnson, 1 percent.
I agree. Women will vote for Romney, and their votes will get rid of Obama. I honestly don’t think the soccer moms and other female voting groups will support Gingrich in such a comparable way. This will be especially evident when everyone is reminded that Gingrich cheated on his wife with another woman, and is currently on his third marriage.

I heard the most absurd theories about Romney: One said he supported or even pushed for passage of RomneyCare, another that he pushed for gay marriage in his state, and a third said that he was a big government liberal who strongly supports legislation underminging the Second Amendment, including the Brady Bill, mandatory firearms ID cards, waiting periods to purchase firearms, Feinstein's gun ban, and restrictions on semi-automatic firearms. Other than his entire political career, I haven't seen any evidence that would justify those silly accusations.
Thanks for the message . I know some VERY conservative people who believe that Trump is the real deal . I’m not as sure , but I know he would make a much better President than Romney , for example . Seems that the people are too brainwashed to grasp that Trump is better than Romney. Many Independents are really leftists and they flood the internet with lies about Trump. Notice Ron Paul never shouts anything anti-China? Because he is a communist. Trump is always bashing China. There are many brainwashed Republicans that would never vote outside the party and that is a big problem .
Here is my feelings on Romney: he is *not* the perfect candidate by any means, but I like the fact that as far as we know he is a good family man and seems to have a moral compass. I like the fact that he has been a successful businessman and leader (very successful); he knows how markets work and I believe he is smart enough to make a good faith attempt of getting us out of the economic mess we are in.
What I don’t like about him is that he is a political opportunist, and is willing to sway with the wind - he see’s a parade and wants to get in the front of it, no matter which way it is going.
Why I will vote for him if he is the candidate is that the mood of the country has changed; imo we will keep the house (maybe pickup some seats) and either take the senate or at least make some additional gains...
Therefore, the parade will be heading to the right, and Romney will want to get in front of it and lead; he will not take on a Republican congress, he will work well with them - he will want to be successful, and he will only be successful if he is mostly on board with them.
*IF* I thought for a second the house/senate was going to left in a major way, I *would not* want to vote for Romney...because he would see the parade heading to the left and lead it that way...that is his opportunistic way.
I see him as smart enough to see the writing on the wall, smart enough to hire competent people, and smart enough to see that the country needs a BIG dose of fiscal conservatism;. He also won’t be seen as a radical extremist by middle america (he is fairly polished politically, no?), so he will have a better chance of leading the parade whichever way it goes and be able to make a palatable case for why it needs to go that way (even if deep down he doesn’t believe it).
A political opportunist to be sure, but with the right people in the house and the senate, he is smart enough to cooperate.
That said, the *most* important thing fiscal conservatives can do is keep and improve on the margins in the house and senate; ultimately (if they have a backbone), they control the purse strings no matter who is in the WH.

I don’t see Romney as anything more than another George H.W. Bush. He’s not a conservative, he’s changed his stance on abortion and other issues, and is not going to get the base to rally around him. I doubt that Romney is going to do well in the South.
I’m in NH, and I am not voting for another Dole/McCain retread. Willard is the establishment’s choice. With the open primary, I’m afraid we’re going to see a repeat of 2008.

I recall when the sleazy behavior of Tiger Woods came to public attention. Virtually every sponsor dropped him like a bad habit because the sponsors recognize that women are the premier purchasers of consumer goods and services throughout America. Packaging a politician these days is not much different than packaging a consumer product. However, one thing to recall is that if women find the salesman of said product offensive, then they won’t buy the product. Because Romney is attractive, takes care of his wife and children and doesn’t have the destructive behavioral patterns of Obama, I believe women will vote for him en masse and thereby vote Obama out. Gingrich will NOT have this same effect because of his troubled, and in one case - BAD BEHAVIOR, during his marriages.

You are exactly right. The problem is that we thought we were making some progress in that direction with the last election, but with Democrat plant, Crybaby Boehner as speaker, Obama has gotten everything he wants passed.
The presidential race is the same: 2008 = McCain, 2012 = Gingrich/Romney. Absolutely no progress at all. It's as if the whole Tea Party movement never happened.
I think a lot of conservatives will be discouraged from believing that change can be made from within the two major parties.
