Inviting Espionage: The administration is considering reviving a '90s-era nuclear scientist exchange program with China. Does no one in the White House remember how much damage the previous arrangement caused?
Of the many regrettable initiatives dreamed up by the Clinton administration, few were as perverse as the nuclear scientist exchange program. The arrangement turned out to be a gift to the Chinese, who were able to steal U.S. nuclear secrets virtually in plain sight.
Either unable or unwilling to learn from the past, the Obama administration wants to bring the program back. The Washington Times reports that "Deputy Energy Secretary Daniel B. Poneman is working on a major Obama administration initiative that would renew scientist exchanges between U.S. nuclear weapons laboratories and Chinese nuclear facilities."
The 1990s version of the exchanges yielded unprecedented espionage. How bad was it? An internal lab document obtained and reported by IBD in 1999 indicated that "during the Clinton administration, the number of Chinese nationals working" at the Los Alamos National Laboratory in New Mexico had "catapulted 411%."
We're not saying every Chinese worker at the lab was a spy. But Congress found at least 13 suspected spies gained lab access without proper CIA or FBI vetting. Why open U.S. labs to scientists from a nation that had already been stealing our nuclear secrets for decades?

Kinda late to bring this matter up, isn’t it?
That’s why he must be vetted in 2012 before he is allowed to run the 2nd time.
Who is Obama and where is he from?
NO. More emphasis: Hell, NO!
It us certain the Gorelick Memo made discovery of plots before their execution more problemmatical. Would those who make their omlettes by breaking 'a few eggs' go so far as to sacrifice a few Americans to further their own agendae? ...make the opposition seem incompetent? ...enact laws which could be used against Americans later?
'Fast and Furious' says yes, they would.
While that seems tinfoil hat stuff, any more, reality is getting pretty far under the old Reynolds Wrap.
The more outrageous the plot seems, the more easily it is dismissed as "Conspiracy Theory" or 'kookiness'.
But Joe McCarthy was right, and the WTC 7 collapse still looks a lot like an implosion job to me.
BTW, that isn't saying Bush did anything, the terrorists had likely been plotting for longer than he was in office, and he had a host of entrenched holdovers in agencies everywhere.
Kind of like those destructive yet ubiquitious "unintended consequences" of [fill in compassionate liberal program here]. Just because the damage was unforeseen by some/most, doesn't mean it was unintended. Look at the WOD... some think it is a failure, but it is actually quite a success. TSA is another success story from the pit of hell.
Yes, But,
Billy boy was able to receive substantial contributions from the chi coms for giving them our nuke secrets like how to MIRV nuke rockets.
Come on now what’s more important? Priorities now ya know...
Our secrets aren’t safe with any dim president.
From a secular aspect, dims treat World Peace exactly as they treat society.
Everyone should have equal. Equal powers will live in peace.
The rich (technologically superior) should give to the poor (technologically inferior).
Clinton did it with missile technology. MIRV technology to China in particular. With a little money changing hands no doubt.
Add religious conviction to that and we’re in real trouble.
NO, Next Question
All the above relies on trust, but if few of the have-nots are trustworthy, we're committing a suicide of sorts by arming our enemies.
America is one of the few who've proven to be trustworthy. Yes, we used the bomb. Once....to save millions. We've fought all over the globe but never to enrich ourselves. We've fought to free more Muslims around the world than anyone else. All we've asked, as Colin Powell once said, is enough ground to bury our dead. We've projected our integrity onto peoples that don't deserve it. Simply take a look at the stone age mentality of much of the middle east, or the deceitful intentions and actions of the Chinese. It won't end well, for us, at least.
It's becoming clearer that the world sorely misses our role as sheriff.
