Giant domain name registrar GoDaddy.com has pulled its support from the controversial Stop Online Piracy Act after owners of several websites announced they would take their business elsewhere.
Negative feedback about SOPA from a number of customers forced GoDaddy to take a second look at the legislation, said Warren Adelman, Go Daddy's newly appointed CEO. Go Daddy has concerns about the free speech and Internet security implications of the legislation, but until now, has worked with lawmakers to address those issues, he said.
"It's clear to us the bill's not ready in its current form," Adelman said Friday. "Looking at this over the last 20 hours, we're not seeing consensus in the Internet community, we're hearing the feedback from our customers."
On Thursday, Reddit user selfprodigy said he was pulling 51 domain names from GoDaddy because of the registrar's support of SOPA. The same day, Ben Huh, CEO of the Cheezburger family of humor websites said said his company would move its 1,000-plus domains off Go Daddy unless it dropped its support for the bill, known as SOPA.
On Friday, Wikipedia cofounder Jimmy Wales also threatened to move from Go Daddy. "Their position on SOPA is unacceptable to us," Wales said in a tweet.

Governments worldwide will eventually gain complete control over the internet.
In its current form, the internet is too great a threat to their existence.
Still studying this one my self, here’s more:
GoDaddy lost 72,354 domains this week. It’s not enough.

...a quick note about www.techi.com... they utilize VERY large scripts that will grab your computer memory BIG TIME, so much so, i cannot be sure if they are delivering trojan material... i suggest BLOCKING their website 24/7. Just a precaution...
SOPA is bad enuf, but these remora-like websites that feed reams of c-r-a-p adverts (even about themselves) are real-time pests. Sometimes even Drudge goes that route...
Thanks for the info, I had no idea.
Looked at the script, they seem to be benign.
UR likely right, script benign... i just have a peeve about these websites that grab a memory stranglehold on ‘older’ computers (2 years but plenty of punch) by posting tons of ad-crapola. They should be SOPA’d! hehee
ICE took down — stole, really — a hip hop website for a year, denied the site’s attorney access to any and all court orders and proceedings, and even disappeared filed documents. They finally said “oops, our bad” and dismissed the case. No due process, no findings, and no judgement.
Techdirt has the whole story.
If Big Government could regulate how much we sneeze, they would with sneeze-o-meters on every snout. If these regulators pigs continue to act like the pigs they are, I wish I could put rings in their snouts and cover the legislation floors with a foot thick layer of mud.
I volunteer to drive in the first truck load.
Mud? Change it to $**t and make them eat it!
S00000oooooooowwwwweeeeeee! Piggy piggy! Come and get it!
We may not like SOPA but the boycott was spearheaded by Anonymous, and that I don’t like.

SOPA and PIPA have the potential to harm Free Republic.
If you’re a FReeper, have you emailed your two Senators and Representative about this potentially harmful legislation? If not, why not?

Murdoch and his Fox News flunkies are all for SOPA. As usual, don’t expect to hear a real assault on our rights addressed on talk radio. Nope, we’ll just hear about some company that says “Happy Holidays”, call it a “War On Christmas”, and sell more adjustable beds to the boobs.

Yep, they are not our friends, even if we might on occasion agree with something they target. Their end game is not Conservative.
