WASHINGTON, Iowa (Reuters) - The man who might win the Republican Party's first presidential nominating contest fears that the United Nations may take control of the U.S. money supply.
Campaigning for the January 3 Iowa caucuses, Ron Paul warns of eroding civil liberties, a Soviet Union-style economic collapse and violence in the streets.
The Texas congressman, author of "End the Fed," also wants to eliminate the central banking system that underpins the world's largest economy.
"Not only would we audit the Federal Reserve, we may well curtail the Federal Reserve," Paul told a cheering crowd of more than 100 in this small Iowa city last week.
Paul, 76, is facing questions for racist writings that appeared under his name two decades ago, which he has disavowed as the work of "ghost writers."

Tonight Newt blew his foot completely off by attacking Dr. Paul and saying he loved Romney’s communist medicine. What we have is abject fear and panic by newt but he has cost himself dearly. The turn out for Dr.Paul will be huge. Newt will be abandoned by 10 million if the party rigs his candidacy with “winner take all” . We are tired of fighting Israel wars with our blood and our money and I assure you that is over.
Well considering we armed Iraq in the 80’s to alllow them to be blown up... I can see why they hate us. The FACTS are, Israel will stop any nuclear sites capable of making weapons. We shouldnt be using fear tactics to get us in another undeclared endless war with another 3rd world country

I can fault the guy for some of his foreign policy views and kookiness, but not this.
He is dead on.
And I'm fascinated. I'm old enough to remember the days when doomsaying was confined to two groups: environmentalists and goldbugs. My father is old enough to remember the days when even the pampered pets of the doomsaying cohorts - naturally, the environmentalists - were regarded tolerably as cranks. Idealistic and well-meaning, of course, but cranks nonetheless. Needless to say, the goldbugs weren't accorded pampered-pet status. They were treated harshly.
How many people know that, during the Lyndon Johnson administration, government scientists looked into Rachel Carson's Silent Spring claims and found them wanting? I think I'm on safe ground when I say that the Johnson administration was prone to using government power, so there wasn't any hidebound prejudice behind the thumbs-down.
But look at America now. Doomsaying has gone mainstream. I'm not erudite in history, but I know of no nation that's gone from can-do optimism to doomsaying in so short a timeframe. As I indicated: when my father was a young man, all of the current strains of doomsaying were dismissed out of hand. Even the pampered-pet varieties.
A large part of the fascination has to do with my home country of Canada. Back in the olden days, what gave Canada national spirit was - well, anti-Americanism as buttressed by identification with the British Empire. As Canada and America have become closer, and with the waning of the U.K., that anti-Americanism has attenuated - but with nothing to take its place. As a result, outside of sporting events, it's actually hard to be a full-throated Canadian patriot.

Israel is not going to bomb Iran. They know that nothing they can do will do any more than delay it, at best. And even if they do, it won’t solve the problem.
As far as Paul’s comments about Iran are concerned, he seemingly does not understand that if Iran has the abomb, then so will the Saudis, the Egyptians, the Libyans, the Syrians, the Turks, and virtually every other despot in the region. It’s one thing to think that you can contain Iran, but just plain stupid not to see that with every madman in the region having a bomb, one of them is eventually going to use it.
When he compares it to the Soviet Union, I cringe. We fought a Cold War because they had the bomb. People died. Not only that, but there were several points where we came to the brink of nuclear war. Why does he want to go thru that again? Why does he trust Iran as much as the Soviets?
Seriously, your undies are in a bunch.
Has it occured to you that Pakistan was born in a self chosen holocaust about 75 years ago, while Iran has been a nation state since before Christ?
Yet Pakistan has had the nuclear bomb for decades.

You should take this line of logic a little further. Who is to say that Iran doesn’t already have nukes? It’s not like ahmanutjob is going to answer the question openly and honestly.
