For an half hour Tuesday, Jeremiah Anderson served as one of Mayor Domenic J. Sarno aides, helping him launch the city’s official celebration of Kwanzaa.

Jeremiah, 11, of Springfield, was one of several dozen young people attending the City Hall ceremony recognizing Kwanzaa, the seven-day holiday that celebrates African-American community, family and culture.

As Sarno stood at the podium, reading a proclamation, Jeremiah stood by his side. At the mayor’s invitation, Jeremiah finished the proclamation, winning applause from the crowd and the mayor.

The holiday – which runs from Dec. 26 to Jan. 1 – was first celebrated in 1966 by Maulana Karenga, a black studies professor at California State University. The holiday is modeled after ancient and modern harvest celebrations in Africa, and the name Kwanzaa is derived from a Swahili phrase meaning “first fruits.”

Springfield resident Keyana Jones explained the seven principles of Kwanzaa: unity, self-determination, collective work, cooperative economics, purpose, creativity and faith.

The man’s name is Ron Everett.
He has been certified paranoid schizophranic by a court.
The “African harvest festival” involves rituals using corn, indiginous to North America.
The “principals” are Marxism, the names Swahili.

“Juche”.

Means about the same.

Kwansaa is as legitimate as Festivus. Let’s set up the aluminum pole, start the airing of grievances, and show the feats of strength.

The SLA used the same seven principles of Kwanzaa as their seven points.

LOL! So when is the Festivus parade? Aren’t all fake holidays created equally?

Happy festivus one and all. It is nice that we have made up holdays for both black and white cultures.

In Springfield? Why not him?:

Along with 98% of black Americans, it is unlikely Carl celebrates Kwanzaa.

Isn’t Kwanza a holiday celebrated only by elementary school teachers?

How #@&% stupid; the Ku Klux Klan couldn’t have further removed black America from the mainstream if they tried.

That's why black Americans don't celebrate Kwanzaa.

It's sad. Every American school child learns about Kwanzaa and is given the false belief that it is a widely celebrated holiday and an important part of black American culture.

It's not. American retailers know the truth. They know who buys Kwanzaa merchandise and they came up with a number that barely 250,000 people celebrate this holiday. NPR estimated that a mere 1-2% of black Americans celebrate Kwanzaa. In truth, probably more Americans celebrate Festivus.

Did you see any Kwanzaa merchandise for sale this Christmas? I didn't. That's because nobody is buying it. Nobody's buying it because nobody celebrates it. If the stuff sold, retailers would keep it on the shelves, you can guarantee that!

Yet we'll talk about the rich tradition of Kwanzaa year after year...

I won’t repost the pic, but it’s funny and true -

Kwanzaa - a fake holiday celebrated by liberal white elementary school teachers.

Shouldn’t it be “Holiday”? Or “Light Festival”?

Did they have a Christmas celebration?

At least Kwanzaa hasn’t become overly commercialized.

“And who ever heard of a celebration of the harvest...in any country...in the winter?”

Kenya lacks any seasons since it sits so close to the equator.

That was very well worded; the store shelves are where the Kwanzaa hoax is exposed.

5 black Muslims in a tenement basement in Oakland do not a holiday make.
