SACRAMENTO, Dec. 27 (UPI) -- The Tea Party Express offered support to Rep. Michele Bachmann's bid to be the Republican Party's presidential nominee, but stopped short of an endorsement.

The Tea Party Express, in a statement, said that while it hasn't endorsed any candidate, it was committed to backing the conservative candidate who could best defeat President Obama in November, Roll Call reported Monday.

"While the Tea Party Express has not endorsed a presidential candidate at this time, Michele Bachmann [R-Minn.] garners strong Tea Party support because of her work and commitment to restoring fiscal responsibility to Washington, D.C.," Tea Party Express Chairman Amy Kremer said.

Good. At least one national tea party group still has some principles.

"UPI?"

Me too - I thought once United Press International (UPI) merged with Associated Press (AP) UPI would be no more.
But you never know - I was working at an airfield somewhere a few years back and I saw the "PAN AM" name and logo on an aircraft tail - was told it's used by a charter company, so I guess names can live on in other lives.

But back to TPE - Michelle Bachmann is as Tea Party conservative as you can get in the current field (Santorum, too - but Michelle has more fire).

My bad - they still exist (in a much smaller way):

1999 UPI sold its broadcast client list to the AP.
UPI focuses on smaller information market niches, no longer services major media organizations.
UPI was purchased by News World Communications in 2000, (a news media company founded by the Unification Church).

"Michelle Bachmann is as Tea Party conservative as you can get in the current field"

So true and it shocks me how fast so many FReepers have forgotten her consistency. Sure she's made a couple of faux pas, but she sure hasn't had to have a teleprompter at each and every meeting no matter how small!!!

We should all be comparing how the current field will do against the faltering Obama, not the other RINOs with their debating skills!!!

By the way, CNN was reporting at mid-day that Santorum had pulled into 2nd place, right behind Paul the mad Liberaltarian in IA.

No problem...I'm old enough to well remember when the dateline was simply "UP". That was before they got the "I" from the Hearst new service, "INS". :-)

Yep. And with Santorum surging in Iowa, I expect better than expected numbers for both Bachmann and Santorum.
