ON THE RECORD-December 28, 2011

Gov. Rick Perry on the Attack in Iowa

Kimberly Guilfoyle

This is a rush transcript.

KIMBERLY GUILFOYLE, HOST: What are your plans for Iowa, and how do you expect to do?

GOV. RICK PERRY: Well, it's a sprint, that's for sure. We're moving across a lot of Iowa and hitting a lot of not just small towns but medium-sized towns...

And the crowds have been fantastic. I mean, we've hit coffee shops that -- 200 to 300 people and flowing out into the streets and a lot of excitement.....

So we're going to keep running and gunning and talking to people and sharing with them our vision for an outsider to come into Washington, D.C., and to really overhaul that place.....

GUILFOYLE: Well, now, Michele Bachmann has said that she feels that you are guilty of crony capitalism. And I know you're trying to distinguish yourself as somebody who is a non-insider. What do you say to those remarks?

PERRY: Well, I just refer people to the state of Texas for the last decade and being the job creation capital of this country. If that is crony capitalism, America needs some of that.

We know how to create jobs. And you keep the taxes low, you have a regulatory climate that's fair and predictable, a legal system that doesn't allow for over-suing. Listen, the -- if you want to trade a Democrat insider for a Republican insider, people know that's not going to change Washington, D.C. They're really looking for an outsider that's got a record of job creation and executive governing experience. And I'm the only one that is standing up on the Republican side and has those qualifications.....

Watched the interview last night. Perry really is the man we need in the White House. I support him fully.

This morning on “Fox and Friends”, they showed footage of him surrounded by people on the campaign trail. A woman held up her little toddler girl, and the baby just launched herself forward and wrapped her arms around Perry’s neck. Loved it.

Thanks for posting that smoothsailing, I missed it. I hardly ever bother watching FOX anymore and found out about this too late. Good interview and he came across really relaxed and comfortable.

So do I. But he made a serious mistake early-on when he mumbled and stumbled through some talking points. It made him seem unprepared and to some - not very smart. Unfortunately, I think he did himself in. Too bad because I think he could have easily beat Obama.

It was very good. I’d like to see Kimberly Guilfoyle take over for Greta Van Susteran permanently. That’s change I can believe in! :)

Perry is an excellent candidate. He's very good on the stump. I was at an event Tues. There was a huge crowd and he didn't miss a beat. He took many questions and answered all of them with confidence.

I believe Rick Perry is our only hope to defeat Romney. Not only does Perry have the capability of raising the required amount of money, he already has proven he knows how to create a favorable climate for job growth.

Perry actually flew military planes in and out of Iran. I'll take that kind of experience right now.

From what I understand, his bad performances in the early debates were a result of being in considerable pain from spinal surgery. The timing was very unfortunate, but once he started to recover, he found his voice.

God knows we can’t have a man of character as President of the U.S /S

ALL that matters is can he campaign in a suave manner. /S

Will the voters this time be desperate and serious enough to look beyond sound bites and heavily edited video clips?

Will they be thinking of character and substance and a proven record when they enter that polling place and pull the curtain on the voting booth?

That’s what it all comes down to.

The choice is; how well does he speak OR what has he accomplished?

All of our candidates have accomplishments, but Perry is at the top of that list. I can't believe that we are going to fall for this again - letting the establishment and the media pick our candidate for us again.
