The F.B.I. reports that gun dealers submitted the names of almost half-a-million customers in the six days before Christmas, with December on its way to surpassing November, which had a record tally of 1,534,414 names submitted for background checks for criminal convictions and mental health issues. Only a little more than 1 percent of buyers are typically rejected by federally licensed gun dealers. No one knows how many more firearms were purchased through the gun-show loophole that enables black marketeering.
The F.B.I. data are particularly grim given the approaching anniversary of the shooting rampage in Tucson that left Representative Gabrielle Giffords gravely shot in the head, six people dead, including a federal judge, and 13 others wounded. In the nations shock and grief, politicians vowed gun reforms, like a ban on the 33-round assault clips that enabled the shooter to attack a crowd in an instant, improvements in the federal background check system and to have more states track and prevent individuals with histories of mental illness like the shooter in Tucson from acquiring guns.
None of these have been enacted as the nation heads toward the end of another year of almost 100,000 people shot or killed with a gun. Theres been a hearing for a worthy Senate bill that strengthens the background check and applies it to all gun sales, but the House is poised to swat it down. The gun lobby, fairly crowing, claims the spike in gun sales is because more people are feeling the need to protect themselves even though the latest F.B.I. data show a 6 percent drop in violent crimes. A raft of studies have found that the presence of guns greatly increased the likelihood of homicide and suicide in households.

I for one don't like the idea of massive debt, or massive death.
Three cheers for an Armed Citizenry!
Fact: A loaded gun in the hands of an infant is far less dangerous than a printing press in the hands of the liars and agenda-whores at the New York Times.
Message to NYT editorial board: FU
Virtually all of which have been discredited as being "progressive" agitprop.
Love the .gif, Travis! A good one!
Summary; Guns sales are up and crime is down but more guns cause more crime.
People read this stuff and believe it?
I was at a meeting with some people from that organization. One guy had pictures of his new baby. The newborn was already dressed in a BO shirt.
Count on the NY Slimes to be dishonest, partisan, and inflammatory. THERE IS NO GUNSHOW LOOPHOLE! FFL holders selling at gun shows must do all the paperwork and background checks they do in their stores. Private citizens can sell personal guns with no paperwork or background check, just like they do anywhere else. I really don't think it's a coincidence “liberal” and “lie” both begin with li.
Just like they believe that every state except Illinois is now like Dodge City.
Awesome! I’ll be circulating that one. Thanks.
The people see a worldwide Islamic incursion and a collaborationist government. Self-help is the only help one can count on. A million Charles Martels.
Government indoctrination centers (public schools and nearly all universities) produce the useful idiots necessary, and revenue for the NY Slimes.
We need newspapers in schools ya know.
In the United States, we are experiencing more of a “downturn in the economy”. We are having our industrail, manufacturing, and agriculture base being systemically destroyed. That is far more serious than a “downturn in the economy” because, in the past when we experienced a downturn, the base was still intact.
Succinct and to the point. Love it. Also good for making liberals froth at the mouth and spew green pea soup.
That’s a pretty handy guide. I recently swapped out my .357 revolver for a 9mm semi (15 round magazine) for carrying in my car because the nature of the threat has change: I am more likely to encounter a mob than a single carjacker these days.
An armed society is a polite society. Only safe place in town is at a gun show and at the firing range.
You will meet the nicest people there.
You have a muslim in the White House as proof that peopple read this and stuff like this and believe it.
A 6% drop in violent crimes with more guns on the street tells me that an armed society is a society that has less crime in it.
However the Times is trying to infer the exact opposite.
Maybe they should look a how Britains crime rate soared when they outlawed guns.
