Bachmann campaign loses second key staffer in Ron Paul flap

Minnesota Rep. Michele Bachmann's campaign lost another high-ranking staff member on Thursday after that staffer defended another former Bachmann official's defection to a rival campaign. Wes Enos, Bachmann's political director, has left the campaign, spokeswoman Alice Stewart confirmed to NBC News on Thursday evening. The resignation comes on the heels of last night's announcement by Iowa state Sen. Kent Sorenson, who had served as Bachmann's Iowa chairman, that he had stepped down from that position to support Texas Rep. Ron Paul's campaign instead. Yesterday, Enos publicly defended Sorenson, an Iowa state Senator, against charges voiced by Bachmann that Sorenson had accepted money from the Paul campaign, in violation of state law. (This narrative is disputed by Sorenson himself.) "I can't in good conscious watch a good man like Kent Sorenson be attacked as a sell-out," Enos told NBC News on Wednesday night, insisting that Sorenson felt personal loyalty to colleagues in the state legislature backing Paul.

5 more days... and Bachmann wont even be in the contest anymore. I see nothing wrong with a few people jumping ship early to snatch up availible jobs while the gettings good. In a week a lot of people that used to work for Bachmann and Santorum will be looking for work.

So how long will it for her to bow out now?

I can see what is happening here. If freepers can give up on a conservative and put perceived winnability above conservative ideas, why wouldn’t a politicians go whichever way the wind blows?

Hopefully Perry or Newt will pick up most of the votes.

Bottom line: Her campaign is inept. She surrounded herself with self-serving consultants like Ed Rollins.

She/her staff cancel promised appearances. They don't finalize rallies when they ask local talk show hosts to MC. They give out itineraries and ignore them.

Total mismanagement. This is just a symptom.

Gosh, shenanigans would be my first thought, but son of a gun this seems so sincere..../MS

As far as I am concerned, Bachmann was over back in August.

She’s just been taking a long time to pack and move out.

Sorenson is a slimeball

If he said that he thought her campaign was failing and he accepted a better job offer, I would have no problem with that

but he cleary is giving slimy answers, and could even be lying and accusing OTHERS of lying- the slimiest act of all

People who know him talked abut having this comversation BEFORE THIS ALL HAPPEND and now he is calling them liars too.

And I am not a Bachman supporter (anymore) she lacks the skills to hire a competant team (like this jerk Sorenson)

Santorum, Perry or Paul most likely. Romney got her Superpac the day before. Newt needs to help himself to a debate. As you’ve seen from the polls, Santorum just past him.

Hopefully Perry or Newt will pick up most of the votes. Would be nice... But if votes shift, wouldn't they more likely shift to Santorum? Santorum's getting a wave in the press. Many voters will vote for who they think can win - self validation and all that. If they think Santorum is the next flavor of the month, defections from Bachmann could help Santorum. Then again, Bachmann will not get out before Iowa. It's doubtful she'll lose many from this. Most folks are not that tuned in and this stuff is happening late...

Santorum actually thinks this little spurt of panicked “perfect conservatives” will finally make him a contender.

But knowing how Santorum has no money, has spent his last dime in Iowa, (Poor judgment) and has no organization or preparations in other states, he is a dead man walking.

I am not sure that even santorum realizes that yet.

Plus, she told some nasty lies about Newt. I emailed her and told her she should apologize, but she never did...

Not likely.

Santorum doesn’t have the money for a long run and will probably be gone not long after Bachmann bows out, probably before February. People are now starting to seriously think about who should be the nominee and the real money will now start to filter in.

Hopefully Bachmann will go back into the House and Santorum will make another run for Congress. I think he’s paid a price for supporting Toomey and deserves another shot, because he is a reliable voice for Christian conservatism.

Newt needs a top 3 in Iowa. If Insider Advantage/PPP is right then he has a good shot. If Rasmussen/CNN is right then Newt’s may have a problem. However, statistically Newt and Santorum are tied for 3rd in Rasmussen/CNN/PPP.

Santorum having an upward swing benefits from his new found positive news coverage. News coverage of Newt’s slide hurts him. Newt needs some favorable change in polls coming in the next few days. Perception and momentum are big factors.

Seems like a serious unraveling is occurring here.

I realize she is a true conservative, and I do appreciate that in her, but I must be honest in stating that I believe that she has shown in a number of ways that she doesn’t have what it takes to win the presidency at this time.

I ain’t gonna say anything mean about her, don’t want to go there, but I don’t see her winning over Obama. Just my opinion.

The Democrats must be rolling on the ground laughing over all of this spectacle. Talk about Chaos! The DNC is salivating over running a highly organized and professional election campaign and they will sell it exactly that way. Then they will compare that to this clown show, called the Republican primary election comedy show.

They will show the Republican candidates and this whole bazaar campaign season for what it is. And we have to admit, the GOP campaign season has been highly chaotic, disorganized and a complete failure. Get ready for this to hit all the comedy shows and campaign ads. It is sure to hurt us in a very big way.
