The pointlessness of Mitt Romney
Daily Caller ^ | 122911 | Theo Caldwell

“Pointless … like giving caviar to an elephant.” ~ William Faulkner

Leave it to Faulkner to create a simile so apt that it reaches across decades to apply, very neatly, to the futility of foisting Mitt Romney upon the Republican Party as its presidential nominee. The image of the elephant is self-evidently appropriate. As for caviar, despite its association with money and privilege, one wonders who actually enjoys its taste. Truth be told, it is over-rated, as most delicacies are. Caviar is a lot like Marmite, only more expensive and lacking its nutritional value. So it is with Romney, moneyed and privileged, yet without much to recommend him.

Of course, the late Nobel Laureate knew nothing of the former Massachusetts governor, but ’twas always thus with a masterful turn of phrase — it can be wheeled out again and again, pertinent to any number of circumstances.

In this case, nominating Romney to lead the GOP in November, and even electing him president, would be pointless. While a President Romney may slow the country’s deterioration, and may even make good on his pledge to repeal Obamacare (that is, if the Supreme Court doesn’t drive a stake through that vampire-law first), his toothless policy proposals will do no more than delay the inevitable — that is, the end of America as we know it.

My dear FRiend, it is entirely possible that you are basically too delicate for final battle to preserve our nation, the nation who gave you the freedom to be at left at peace, to avoid conflict and hang around being delicate.

Tell me you are an old WWII WAC, and that you are tired. I don’t think I can bear one more claimant to American freedom who remains unwilling to fight all the way to hell to defend our American way of life out of respect for those who HANDED us such a gift paying the ultimate price, in every generation. Romney is politely about Romney when not advancing socialist programs like “health” care.

It is up to us [the citizens] to see that Obama is not reelected, then to hold Romney's feet to the fire and make him be true to his word. I think he will.

While some conservatives think he has gone to far in compromising as governor, I don't see strong evidence of him lying or reversing himself on pledges he made to voters. If he just sticks to his positions on business and less regulation we will be on the road to saving the country from Obama's destructive agenda.

Then, it is up to us to educate him on the need to start unraveling the departments of education, commerce and energy while something constructive is done about justice. Most of all the importance of the Supreme Court appointments coming in the next eight years should not be forgotten.

Thank you Sir for your steadfastness against Romney and his liberal minions.

You are a strong voice against the attacks from the Liberal media who openly salivate at liberal Romney being our nominee. These liberal hacks collude with the Chicago White House in an effort to select the Republican nominee.

"If Romney were to be the Republican candidate and lose to Obammy it would prove to EVERYONE that the Republican Party is dead. It would force the RINO establishment to realize the truth."

If Obama gets another four years, nothing we realize may have much meaning.

You’re on the wrong web site.

This is an anti-Romney website. You will never find any type of support for Romney and will convince no one as is he is a Liberal.

” I don’t see strong evidence of him lying or reversing himself on pledges he made to voters. “

His voters pushed him out of office with 34% approval, and replaced him with a Democrat.

Romney was a lousy Governor, and a disaster for the state GOP.

"If Romney were to be the Republican candidate and lose to Obammy it would prove to EVERYONE that the Republican Party is dead. It would force the RINO establishment to realize the truth."

Looking through the comments, I don't find that to be true. I did not come here as a Romney supporter, but my candidate is not catching fire and I am looking seriously at who might be electable. I have tried hard to believe in Newt, but he just can get me to sign on. He makes some very good points and then does things like today saying we need training programs for everyone who draws unemployment. No matter how good he sounds one day, he seems to revert back to big government the next.

My brand of conservatism seems to be pushed to the back of the line time and time again, But I am fearful of letting my sensibilities got there to. So, if a third party candidate or a move to not vote gets going, it will be interesting to share our thoughts as we all go down together, won't it?

If Obama gets another four years, nothing we realize may have much meaning.

As an intellectual exercise try to figure out what's left of the conservative agenda that hasn't ALREADY been given away by the RINO's. Sometimes I think there really isn't much at stake because we've lost so much. Do you want your enemy in front of you or behind you?

Freedom is just another word for nothing left to lose

If the people in the shadows who seem to do the real candidate selections pull Rubio onto the ticket in order to swing Florida and a greater percentage of latinos, the validity of that statement may be questionable. But, what will happen with four more years of Obama is an absolute certainty.

Romney supports many liberal things, but i don’t think he supports the radical gay agenda.

You ARE kidding, right? Of course he does, he did when he was gov of Mass and he does now.

The fight against Romney winning the nomination is defining conservative politics for years to come, defeating Romney is about more than just the 2012 Presidential election.

Conservatives have to take a stand and show that Romney is a bridge too far for the Rockefeller/Romney GOP left, and they need to be stopped.

The GOP establishment actually supported candidates running against the Republican nominees in 2010, that was a formal declaration of war.

I won’t vote for Mitt Romney if he wins the nomination.

Why is that a bad thing? I don’t understand why conservatives balk at reforming liberal programs and making them more conservative. Job training could get people off unemployment and back out into the economy, retrained for jobs that businesses need. If done right, this is an upfront investment that saves us money down the road. Maybe it could also be funded by the business community. Status quo on some of these social programs is not good, but programs like this are not going away anytime soon, at least I don’t think any other candidates are saying they’re going to abolish unemployment.

WOW! Jim, what the hell happened to Christian values and tolerance???

Jim’s support of Christian values and tolerance is exactly why he doesn’t have any patience for those who support Romney - a man who opposes everything this site stands for and that is from the boss’s own posts here.

I go along with your ideas if the point is to show that a person is taking advantage of an existing educational opportunity. But, when it means government opening up training centers like they do with all their meaningless counseling and other “programs’ I can’t support it.

You have no clue, do you. Not a chance in Hell will he be true to anything but liberalism. Romney is the epitome of lying to get what he wants, he has been taught that his whole life and frankly looks down his nose at all of us gentiles.

The man really believes he is the fulfillment of prophecy. That can’t be good.
