The pointlessness of Mitt Romney
Daily Caller ^ | 122911 | Theo Caldwell

“Pointless … like giving caviar to an elephant.” ~ William Faulkner

Leave it to Faulkner to create a simile so apt that it reaches across decades to apply, very neatly, to the futility of foisting Mitt Romney upon the Republican Party as its presidential nominee. The image of the elephant is self-evidently appropriate. As for caviar, despite its association with money and privilege, one wonders who actually enjoys its taste. Truth be told, it is over-rated, as most delicacies are. Caviar is a lot like Marmite, only more expensive and lacking its nutritional value. So it is with Romney, moneyed and privileged, yet without much to recommend him.

Of course, the late Nobel Laureate knew nothing of the former Massachusetts governor, but ’twas always thus with a masterful turn of phrase — it can be wheeled out again and again, pertinent to any number of circumstances.

In this case, nominating Romney to lead the GOP in November, and even electing him president, would be pointless. While a President Romney may slow the country’s deterioration, and may even make good on his pledge to repeal Obamacare (that is, if the Supreme Court doesn’t drive a stake through that vampire-law first), his toothless policy proposals will do no more than delay the inevitable — that is, the end of America as we know it.

I would only disagree about the caviar. Real, fresh caviar is superbly delicious. I just can’t afford it.

Romney is not like caviar. He is more like sewage.

Many here won't appreciate your comments. But I agree, Romney will be a decent president.

Wrong. The Repo Men are behind Mitt now. Long read, but invaluable.

Romney will be the man. What are you going to do all those years he's the president?? Just sit out there in the wilderness?

Really.

You would, of course, have that list of his many examples and advances benefiting conservatives, and for advancing conservativism, while in the only elected office he was able to win, of which he attained in a socialist state, where socialists are elected to the big chair in the largest way.

Now about that list of yours............on the Socialist, Romney.............. (Yawning)...........
(Tapping table top......).........still waiting.........)

From my observations, a RINO President who is willing to “reach across the aisle and work in bi-partisan support” with the DemonRats has done more damage to this country than a divided government with a Democrat President and a Republican congress. The MSM praises the “bi-partisan” President and eggs him on to work for the people.

If Romney were to be the Republican candidate and lose to Obammy it would prove to EVERYONE that the Republican Party is dead. It would force the RINO establishment to realize the truth.

... his toothless policy proposals will do no more than delay the inevitable — that is, the end of America as we know it...

His support of homosexuals and their deprave lifestyle... makes it unfit for real conservatives (fiscal + Social values)

Speaking of wilderness, you be the Man on that one. Some of us oppose Socialists on a Republican ticket, who pattern and prove the Marxist path to “health” care, now laid out by the Marxists. Enjoy your fruits. The rest of us prefer to divert from the wildnerness you appear to occupy.

Romney is a backstabbing misogynist fascist.

Romney belongs in the DNC or in Obama’s 57 States,
and he IS a Mexican who is ineligble, anyway.

To run for governor of Massachusetts he took on every social liberal cause. His Romney Care shows his trust in Big Government, if it is run by a technocrat. This makes him a fiscal liberal. Why in the world would we want that kind of person represent the GOP, when the country is on the edge of bankruptcy?

Also, some important Constitutional rights are hanging in there by a 5-4 thread at the Supreme Court. We simply cannot afford a President we are not sure will fight for a nominee who will uphold the Constitution.

I know, I’m outnumbered here. I used to feel at home on this website, but I won’t give up. However, I will be nicer about it, in the future. I don’t like hate speech, and I’m not happy about my joining in. Whoever wins, we need to defeat Obama not ourselves.

On an all-inclusive trip to a resort in Dominican Republic, one evening’s repast included an appetizer, the main ingredient of which was caviar. I had never tasted caviar before; nor have I SINCE, for that matter, and I understand there are a number of types of caviar. I only know that what I had in Punta Cana was delicately delicious.

The newbie conservatives are deciding this election. I’ll vote for romney if he’s our choice, but, I’m sick and tired of all this entitlement crap. America is YEARNING for a REAL conservative. Romney is a rino, I’m sick and tired of voting for McCain. Next time, plant yourself on a seat and stay across the isle. You no issues people need to firm up your want support. Do you want Obama?
