Henderson, N.C. — A Henderson teenager shot and killed an intruder Thursday morning, according to the Vance County Sheriff's Office.

When deputies arrived at 586 S. Lynnbank Road, they found a man lying in the yard. Michael Anthony Henderson Jr., 19, had been shot in the chest with a shotgun, deputies said. He was taken to Maria Parham Medical Center where he died.

Prayers for the teenage shooter. Even though it’s a good shoot, he will have to live with killing someone.

Home invasion doesn’t seem to be working out for the wanna-be wealth-redistributors...all those record sales of arms and ammo in the last 3 years.

A shotgun? That’s gotta hurt.

he will have to live with killing someone.

he will be able to live. While all lives have value, a person who elects to give theirs up, such as the perp in this case, or someone who commits a capital crime, has sharply reduced the value of his own life. The shooter in this case probably saved his own life and who knows how many others....sleep in peace, you did just fine.

I agree, but at least he (or she) will live. In NC in the not too distant past two children have been killed by home invaders while at home sick during the day. One 11 year old girl was shot to death, and a young boy, 9 I think, was stomped to death by two men expecting to rob an empty home.

From the article and comments it looks like the shooter was a 14 year old boy protecting his 17 year old sister. This is in a rural area and from the picture the house looks isolated.

If it was either his sister or the thug breaking in, the end result may not be so hard for the kid to live with. For a kid who's properly trained on how to use a gun, if he'd done nothing and his sister was killed.....he'd never get over it.

he will have to live with killing someone. . . . .

___________________________________________________________

He will have to live with knowing that he did his country a big favor. The dead man had done this before.

He will have to live with knowing he almost lost his life.

He will have to live with knowing that he saved his brothers life.

He will have to live with knowing that he had the courage to do what had to be done.

I hope his parents and all that know him are proud of him and thank him for his service to the community. The kid is a hero. It’s just too bad he didn’t get both of them.

He saved his life, and the life of his 17 year old sister. Good for him!

.It is out in the county, not in town. We often drive on Lynnbank to go to Henderson when coming from Raleigh or Kittrell. I live in the next county.

I hope the police catch the second guy and fast. It would just worry me to death to know that the bad guy’s buddy is still lurking around.

I hope they do too. They know who he is and where he lives. He is wanted on other charges.

Even though he clearly did the right thing, he will feel some pain. Good people don’t take lives without suffering.

I have a friend who is a police officer. He was forced to shoot and kill an armed man who was threatening his life. He’s a different person now, even though it was a totally justified shooting. He’s quieter, he doesn’t laugh as readily. It weighs on him.

This teen will have to work his way through this. He does need our prayers. He did the right thing, but it’s a difficult and life changing incident.

I would think that rural NC is NOT a good place to do home invasions/burglaries.

I worked with an older guy in Charlotte who told me that when he was a kid, he was required - REQUIRED - to bring a gun to school! Shooting was actually part of P.E. Because that was a different time with mature, responsible young people, they never had an accident.

He will also have to live with knowing that this is why the 2nd Amendment exists, why so many are willing to fight and die to keep it, and that he has the respect of countless Americans who are also willing to live with the above.

At age 10 my dad gave me a 410 to carry when I walked to my grandpa's house. We lived in the valley near the Virginia line. It never crossed my mind to play with my gun. I was dead serious about it and careful where I put it when I got to my grandpa's. I am now a 76 year old grandma and have recently considered arming myself due to all the break-ins we are having.
In the 70’s I joined the NRA so my son could learn how to handle and use firearms.
