4 charged after 2 U.S. flags burned at Occupy Charlotte site
The Charlotte Observer ^ | December 30, 2011 | By Elisabeth Arriero and Steve Lyttle

An Occupy Charlotte member who was jailed after helping burn two U.S. flags told other members late Friday that while he's sorry for the trouble it may have caused the movement, he's not sorry for what he did. "Those were actions taken on my own behalf," Alex Tyler said at a camp meeting. "I did it to display my utter contempt for American greed, not (the military)." Tyler, 19, of Fort Mill was among four Charlotte-area men charged Friday when police say they burned two U.S. flags at the organization's camp site in the uptown area. Two were members of the Occupy Charlotte group. Burning a U.S. flag is not against the law, but police said the four were charged with careless use of a fire because they didn't use a fire pit.

I have found the most effective way to deal with a tantruming child is to ignore it.

As for flag burners, all they’re doing is burning a piece of cloth. Kind of like knocking down the Trade Center towers. I wonder what the terrorist ragheads thought would happen when they did that. Here we are that many years later and America is still here. Under siege from 16th Century religious zealots and Marxist idiots, to be sure. But still here.

Exactly. Then too, the whole of the European theater of war during WW2 encompassed an area from Maine to about Maryland. Another interesting fact was Germany at one time during the war held a line that stretched from New York City to Mexico City. (product of home schooling history)

PS - interesting too is how they show the US and Europe on world maps almost the same size.

Saw a news segments this morning of a woman who threw an occupier out of her home. They were having a caucus and the occupiers attempted to attend it. She was pleasant to them but told them it was her house and they were to leave.

The Trade Center towers were 3000+ PEOPLE, far more than just a symbol.

Islamic jihad is 7th century genocide (”the deliberate and systematic extermination of a national, racial, political, or cultural grou.”, i.e. any non-Muslim or a Muslim of a different sect than mine or anyone against my particular imam has issued a fatwa, or my own flesh & blood if I decide that they have impugned my honor).

Islamic religious zeal is shouting “Allah hu Akbar”.

Shouting “Allah hu Akbar” while you machine gun innocents or detonate your “suicide” vest is demonic evil and insanity.

I just returned from El Salvador. Let’s send him there for a while and see how he likes it. Many there live on $20 per DAY, and yet pay MORE for gas than we do.

A workers’ paradise.

I've always said ending the draft was a bad thing. Time for a new one.
Should include women, require two years military service or Peace Corps like program, and should also require six months in a third world country.
Yeah, I know all about the "draft is slavery" and "army doesn't want draftees" arguments.
But bottom line - 90% of the last two generations don't have a clue how great this country truly is - and what a privilege it is to live here.

I posted this in their comments section as a reminder:

” ‘I did it to display my utter contempt for American greed, not (the military).’
A lame excuse. Next time anybody wants to burn the US flag, check out some of the guys who gave rather than took, so that Tyler and crew could protest:

I have to add “WWII” to some of these pictures as the schools these occupiers attended do not deem it necessary to remind people of the price for freedom of speech.”

There is the distant hope that some will click on the links.

You miss my point. It was not my intent to ignore the innocent people murdered that day. My point was that, despite the horrendous nature of the act, America is still here.

Toppling the towers and killing those people did not fundamentally change America. I will concede it did provide an opportunity for the politcal elite to demonstrate their inane lack of courage and vacuuousness-once again.

The intent of the terrorists was to strike at what they saw as a vital American symbol. They wanted to hurt America and make it fearful. The death of those people was a byproduct of that decision.
