Update: L.A. fires likely set by more than one arsonist, police believe
LA Times ^ | 12/31/11 | Andrew Blankstein

Los Angeles authorities investigating a string of more than 35 fires set over the last two days strongly suspect the blazes are the work of more than one arsonist.

On Friday morning, 21 fires were started in a relatively small area around Hollywood and West Hollywood. On Friday night and Saturday morning, 16 more fires were reported. They were similar to the ones in Hollywood but were spread out over a much larger area.

Normally I would be the first to think it was some far left OWS freak, but the areas they are targeting, are not wealthy areas..when you think of North Hollywood, you don’t think “Rich” these people are not wealthy. Im thinking some deranged person who might have gotten evicted from an apartment recently and is getting revenge.

I understand that these two were NOT responsible for all the fires. That was the purpose of my post. They were just two guys who were arrested for setting fires.

Correction...Arrington is not from Sun Valley, but from Sunland.

It’s a New Year’s tradition for muslim “youths” to set automobiles on fire.

When has this happened before in the United States?

My guess too. Didn't the ELFers set fire to a bunch of SUVs at some point not too long ago?

The LA area would be highly susceptible to a terrorist attack during Santa Ana conditions, the hot dry desert wind that strikes every October. By tossing incendiaries from cars into open brush with careful attention to the location and wind direction, you could burn out half the city in one day.

Could be. You're probably right about the OWS folks. They usually target businesses. Then again, it's L.A. Could be anyone. There's no shortage of crazy in Los Angeles.

I would be very surprised, however, if the perps turn out to be gangs of angry Muslim youths. This is pretty much without precedent in the United States.

The entertainment industry feel good liberals respond?

"You know, some people are making a big deal out of it," said one popular singer in tears.

"Who cares? They're not going to go too far with it. Maybe those people are so poor, some of the people who do that they're so poor they've never torched anything in their lives. Let them torch those things for once."

One of the apartments they hit last night is two blocks away from where my sister lives..so tonight they are putting their cars on the street. The areas that are being hit are not wealthy areas. The OWS freaks hate people with wealth..the areas in Hollywood, who lives there, Hispanics, these are not wealthy people..whoever these people are there are obviously more then 1 involved. Can’t go from West Hollywood to North Hollywood THAT fast..so probably a few of these idiots got together and think this is cool, scaring the hell out of people. They are targeting apartments with car ports so they are using the cars to set apartments on fire in the middle of the night, so they want people to die..the question is..why

They hit Jim Morrison’s old home in Laurel Canyon.

It was recently for sale at $1.2 Million.

So I don’t think it’s limited to where the less affluent folks live.

Id like to know where those freaks found out where Jim Morrison lives..kind of odd they would hit a house of a singer who has been dead for many years.

Huh? I didn’t say “lives”. I said his old home, as in: where he resided at one time before his death.

That was the house that inspired the song “Love Street” about.

A suspect here is described as "a male driving a white and tan mid-1990s Lexus ES300 that was seen at one or more of the fires." Just off the top of my head, doesn't sound like an OWS type. I wouldn't expect them to be as organized as these arsonists appear to be.

As long as I didn’t give away where Jimbo’s been hiding since he faked his death, it’s OK. ;-)

“When has this happened before in the United States?”

Maybe not so many at once, as in the LA fires, but this is interesting....

According to 2004 data from the U.S. Fire
Administration and the National Fire Protection
Association, 36,000 intentionally set vehicle
fires occurred, an increase of 18 percent from
the previous year.

Vehicle arson accounted for
$165,000,000 in property damage, an increase
of 25.0 percent from the previous year. Vehicle
arson accounted for 29.0 percent of all arsons.

I’ll go ahead and get conspiratorial here, and say my guess is it’s some Hollweird scriptwriter planning to off someone they are tired of living with, and all this is a diversion so it won’t be so obvious.

It is Hollyweird after all.

I’d look at liberal scriptwriters, the moment someone “accidentally” perishes in one of these.

Because my theory is it won’t have been an accident.

My question was how many of these fires are set by mobs of Muslim youths? The thread poster made it sound as though Muslims torching cars here is a yearly tradition. Maybe in Parisian ghettos but not in America as far as I can tell, not by Muslims anyways.

You posted 2004 data. I wonder what the post 2008 data on car torchings are? I'll bet it's even higher and I'd further bet that most of these were set not out of malicious vandalism but by owners who could no longer make their car payments.

What's going on in L.A., I'm guessing, is the work of a serial arsonist.
