Va. AG backs off call for GOP primary rule changes (Perry, Gingrich)

RICHMOND, Va. (AP) - Virginia Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli is no longer pushing for a change in rules that kept two candidates off the state's March 6 Republican presidential primary ballot.

The Republican Party of Virginia determined that Newt Gingrich and Rick Perry had failed to submit the required 10,000 signatures of registered voters. The candidates have gone to court to challenge their exclusion from Virginia's ballot, which will include only Mitt Romney and Ron Paul.

Cuccinelli, a Republican, said in a statement Saturday that ballot access laws need to be changed not for any candidate, but for the voters. On Sunday, however, Cuccinelli issued a statement saying that while he favors reducing hurdles to getting on the Virginia ballot, he "will not support efforts to apply such changes to the 2012 Presidential election."

Huh- kinda inconsistent, malleable fellow for an AG. Perhaps, too much New Year's Eve. Let's wait til tomorrow and see what he says, once his head stops spinning.

Where is the Perry, Newt lawsuit? Perry at least had more than the required signatures. I’ve heard the initial ballots have already been printed.

Translation: The establishment told him to shut the hell up for endangering Romney’s now solid VA delegates, or he’d be shown the door.

It takes a 4/5th vote- in both chambers of our General Assembly- to do this.

The Dems like the pickle the RPV is in and won’t let it happen.

That is exactly what happened. This election is being totally manipulated by the RINO establishment. It will be a hard uphill fight for us peons(Tea Party Types) to overcome. The RINO establishment will not give up power without a big fight. Remember the RINOs say it is Mitts turn. GO NEWT!

Happy new year, Mrsmith. You’re probably right, but from what I’ve been reading, the Dems are all for liberal, open access because they oppose voter id.

I’m likely wrong, but ultimately, I think they all get on the ballot.

I thought the Grinch wanted to get rid of “activist” judges.

Now he wants an “activist” judge to rule in his favor because
he and his staff could not get 10,000 legal signatures from a
state in which he lives...

Give me a break.

CHA CHING!

Otherwise how could Ken look the VA voters in the eyes and say:
"I was for it before I was against it…"

Give me a break.

No break or soup for you!

Newt dropped the biscuit here and instead of taking the blame, he pointed fingers at several different sources.

Amazing, isn't it. Newt, the "smartest man in the room", wasn't able to accomplish what Ron Paul had figured out.

I'll get that bass-terd, LOL

"E. Duncan Getchell Jr., Virginia solicitor general, said during the hearing that primary ballots must be sent to the printer by Jan. 9 for state election officials to have sufficient time to send them to absentee and overseas voters."

Now looks like ballots are being printed!
