The spectre of 1932: How a loss of faith in politicians and democracy could make 2012 the most
Daily Mail on-line (UK) ^ | 31st December 2011 | Dominic Sandbrook

The dawn of a new year is usually a time of hope and ambition, of dreams for the future and thoughts of a better life. But it is a long time since many of us looked forward to the new year with such anxiety, even dread.

My prayer for the new year:

God Bless the U.S.

God Bless Israel

God Bless Texas

Give us the guidance than can only come from God.

Right on!!! I happend to listen to a speech by Richard Dreyfus, the actor, on Saturday. Now, Mr. Drefus is as liberal, left-wing as a peron comes, but.....he has had a change of heart and politics. The speech was long, but...very informative, as he claims America will disappear shortly if we do not go back to the constitution and the ways of our founding fathers. He blames educators, politicians, hand out government, lack of civic education and an uninformed electorate for our coming downfall. He basically blames politicians of all stripes and says if we do not return to an America that honors individual contribution and excellence we will perish as the one true nation in history that allowed the individual to succeed and prosper from individual effort and reward!!! Interesting speech!!! All should hear it!!! Avialable on CSpan America History 09/17/2011, Byrd Center, WV

“If Obama were re-elected, we will surely see a depression, in fact it is almost guaranteed.”

Depression, disorder and civil disobedience for appetizers.

America will come back when the Washington government is brought to heel.

Sounds like he is a Tea Partier. Those horrible racist people, at least that’s how they are portrayed in the media. They are being triangulated by Dems and Rinos as the cause of all the problems, that they won’t “compromise”. Even after the election victories in 2010, look at the cr*p sandwich that got passed right before they all went on Christmas break....I’m more interested in conservatives winning House and Senate seats in 2012 than I am in the presidential race. Then all those Democrat voters who populate all the offices of the government bureaucracy need to be cleaned out. No matter if there is a conservative President, most who work inside the government are Big Government lifetime Dem voters who will work against them.

It can't be done without strict term limits for every office. Even if the Republicans win the presidency AND a super majority, government will not be cut in any significant way. A super majority win without term limits will only delay the inevitable death of our republic.

Without term limits the Republicans will go directly into "don't rock the boat" mode. They will simply do the absolute minimum to appease the base and not spoil their true goal which is to just be reelected time and time again.

We must eliminate the possibility for these power drunk people to stay in Washington indefinitely. Until this happens we will continue down the road to complete collapse.

2012 could be the worst in history depending on who gets elected, for the sole reason that he will pick the next 3 Supreme Court Justices.

I agree completely.

I even question whether Washington D.C. still has much (good) functional purpose. Let the Congress et al. caucus electronically, and remain in their home states, subject to the electorate’s scrutiny and approbrium when they act as rulers rather than representatives.

Separate them from each other, from lobbyists, and from the focused media influence.

At least one of two things are inevitably in the future for the US gov. Inc.:
1) Financial collapse similar to that which befell the Soviet Union;
2) radical reform which will be imposed upon them.
