COLUMBIA - In South Carolina, the governor's mansion is on the grounds of a former arsenal that was burned down by the Union army during the Civil War.
These days, that attack in the 1860s seems a metaphor for the besieged tenure of Republican Governor Nikki Haley.
Elected last year as a symbol of the conservative Tea Party's rise in U.S. politics, the embattled Haley has had a rocky transition from government critic to government executive -- and potential player in the 2012 presidential campaign.

She royally backstabbed the Tea party. And she must pay for that.
Endorsing Romney - not a smart move for Haley.
SC Majority Leader just endorsed Gingrich!! Bingham is a rising star in the gop and known as a fiscal conservative. http://www.newsmax.com/Politics/bingham-gingrich-endorsement-southcarolina/2012/01/02/id/422792
From now on it's Nikki Who?
Obviously she was an opportunist who did not take the Tea Party as seriously as they took themselves. Bad idea.
Instead of a ringing endorsement, that can be called a stinging/stinking ( which ever way you would want to put it ) endorsement of Romney...... ouch...
New tagline ...
he called me too and left a personal message and said he’d try to call back later.. LMAO
One can run into a brick wall so many times...
It’s time for the conservatives to divorce the GOP for good.
Haley endorsed the candidate she thought was the best choice. I try not to get too worked about about one endorsement, unless there’s a worrying pattern. People come to decisions for their own reasons.
I thought I heard he kicked her money for her campaign. Romney’s been running for 5 years or so and has been wisely using his money to back other candidates. I think most of the endorsements he’s getting now are payback for that. Like Newt said, Romney’s buying the election.
No. In fact it was stone cold stupid.
Most other Republicans (SC's Senator Jim DeMint, for example) are simply keeping their pie holes shut for the time being so the primary process can play itself out. For Haley to actively throw herself into the mix by announcing her "endorsement" of the flip-flopping, "moderate", communist health-care creator Romney was sheer idiocy.
Haley has demonstrated that she's in way over her head. She couldn't just keep her stinking mouth shut. Oh well.
