Santorum Targets Blacks in Entitlement Reform (60 Minutes Left Wing Hatchet Job)
60 Minutes ^ | January 2, 2012 | Lucy Madison

At a campaign stop in Sioux City, Iowa on Sunday, Republican presidential hopeful Rick Santorum singled out blacks as being recipients of assistance through federal benefit programs, telling a mostly-white audience he doesn't want to "make black people's lives better by giving them somebody else's money."

Answering a question about foreign influence on the U.S. economy, the former Pennsylvania senator went on to discuss the American entitlement system - which he argued is being used to politically exploit its beneficiaries.

"It just keeps expanding - I was in Indianola a few months ago and I was talking to someone who works in the department of public welfare here, and she told me that the state of Iowa is going to get fined if they don't sign up more people under the Medicaid program," Santorum said. "They're just pushing harder and harder to get more and more of you dependent upon them so they can get your vote. That's what the bottom line is."

He added: "I don't want to make black people's lives better by giving them somebody else's money; I want to give them the opportunity to go out and earn the money."

"Right," responded one audience member, as another woman can be seen nodding.

"And provide for themselves and their families," Santorum added, to applause. "The best way to do that is to get the manufacturing sector of the economy rolling again."

It is unclear why Santorum pinpointed blacks specifically as recipients of federal aid. The original questioner asked "how do we get off this crazy train? We've got so much foreign influence in this country now," adding "where do we go from here?"

I am appalled at the open racism here.

Some might say that since Iowa is an overwhelmingly WHITE state (95%), that blacks are not the problem - whites are. And some might say that there are numerous Irish immigrants in Iowa, & Irish are known to be lazy, criminal, drunkards, then it is the Irish in Iowa who are the problem.

But I wont say that! That would be racist!

What I hear is that he starts to say “lives” and then drops back and says “people’s lives”, so it comes out “li, people’s lives”.

I simply don’t see how anyone could interpret what he said as being “black”, unless they were deliberately trying to smear him.

But this is CBS. So, yes, this is a deliberate smear.

Even more problematical is that Obama thinks it should be normal for all Americans to be dependent on the government. The native English have adopted the same attitude. They have become as dependent on hand-outs as the Roman plebes were back in the time of Caesar.

He didn’t say “black” ~ you can wish he did, and even get yourself to believe it, but he still didn’t say it.

Leftwingtards and blacks, particularly black leftwingtards have a FILTER in place that has them focus on the slightest tone that might suggest “black”, “teabag”, or “tax”

You must be deaf.

Santorum CLEARLY said “blacks” in the video, & CBS accurately quoted the statement in the article.

What the hell is the matter with you?

Santorum simply did not say "black" and certainly not "blacks" ~ he barely got beyond a "P" sound, not even a "B".

There are people who are paranoid who want him to have said "Black" ~ they need emergency psychiatric intervention ~ not our attention when it comes to politics.

After he got elected I was hoping it wouldn't be that bad. I thought we would have two years of nutty liberal followed by the mid term smack down, followed by the two year shift to the middle to get reelected.

Instead, as soon as he came into office and said the government was the only entity big enough to solve America's problems, I knew we were screwed. Even after the historic midterm smack down we have seen even more of the same.

“OK granted Rick Santorum should have kept his comments race blind”

How do we ever expect to solve what are obviously “racial problems” in this country, if we are forced to keep our “comments” “racially blind”?

That makes as much sense as saying that Islamic terrorism has nothing to do with Muslims....

Where I live there are a lot of Irish that are “the problem”; the WASPs were right to be concerned about letting them in. We tend to serve God rather than Caesar, exactly as they feared we would.

Mentioning the overwhelming dependence of a specific ethnic group is not racism, and is the first step towards helping them out of that dependence. I find it much more racist to inflate grades and award jobs to blacks as though they are mentally impaired and incapable of scoring as well as other ethnic groups; they are being told by their government that that they are inferior due to their genetics.

“The native English have adopted the same attitude. They have become as dependent on hand-outs as the Roman plebes were back in the time of Caesar.”

That is why they had to have welfare reform in 1996; in my town whites quickly learned the “cash-for-kids” scam (we’re between Newark & Jersey City - it is obvious to anyone), and were popping out bastards like the survival of the species depended on it.

Many of us knew even before he announced that he was a radical. But he put on a show of moderation. McCain pretended to believe him, and after Palin showed she was willing to fight, his campaign pulled the rug out from under her. After September 15, all Obama had to do was to ride the crest as the Bush administration paved the way for the massive federal intervention that was to follow. But also from Day-one he showed his hand. His economic surge aimed at only one thing: to grow government.

You are right - it was black people, not blacks. beyond that, you are delusional.

Every poster to this article but you accepts that he referred to black people specifically. Many of the racists here agreed with the statement. Many are defending his singling out of blacks. So, either we are all lying, or you are.

Santorum has not denied the comment, which came at 24 seconds into the 40 second clip. If he was misquoted - he was not, he would have protested - he has not.

You can believe or say anything you want, at the expense of your credibility here at FR. Your credibility with me just went into the toilet. I do not tolerate obvious liars or delusional fools.

Goodbye!

Did you know the lips on the videos don't even synch with the words ~ and there was no labial (a B or P sound), no A, no C, no K ~ and no, the people who are discussing the sentiment, which wasn't expressed in the speech, are NOT agreeing that the word only you imagine was said was actually said.

No, the videos do not say "black people" either.

You are delusional!
