Bachmann Drops Out of Race
KWQC ^ | 1.4.12 | Staff

Posted on 01/04/2012 8:46:43 AM PST by Free Vulcan

An adviser to Michele Bachmann says the Minnesota congresswoman is ending her bid to win the Republican presidential nomination after coming in last in the Iowa caucuses.

Bachmann finished sixth out of six candidates in the first of many contests to pick a Republican presidential candidate.

She canceled appearances planned for Wednesday in South Carolina and scheduled a news conference in Des Moines, Iowa, instead.

The adviser requested anonymity to speak before Bachmann makes the announcement.

Who she endorses will be telling. I hope she announces support for Rick Santorum...and if not him, then Perry.

We shall see, but this is really the only real course of action she has, to drop out and begin to coalese the field.

Her campaign shows why Republican Presidents virtually never come direct from the House. In addition to not having executive experience, having never won even a statewide election put her at a clear disadvantage outside of a very limited regional appeal.

LOL, there were seven, but I guess Huntsman came in so low they don’t even consider Huntsman to be a factor.

If this reporter can't even get the number of candidates correct, why should we believe anything coming from this media outlet? No wonder it says "staff" as the writer.

I believe Bachmann would have been a pretty good president, not much of a candidate but she could have done the job.

Good. It’s time the low pollers dropped out. That’s one less individual that Romney can continue to dilute the votes of those of us who are against him.

I appreciate very much all Mrs. Bachmann has done for the Tea Party movement and conservatism. I wish her all the best and hope and pray that she continues to contribute at a high level.

I’m also very happy with her contribution to the primaries. There were key points at which she was the only one who effectively took on and stayed on an important issue. She shaped the race in a good way.

I’m sure it was an arduous task and she seemed to give it her all.

Just want to say thanks, Michelle. Get some rest. Live to fight another day.

Yes, we shall see very soon, but I would bet she does not endorse anybdy just yet. Perry? No way, not after the way she floored him in that debate with the one-two punch of violating the vaccination rights of “little girls” and selling out for a $5,000.00 campaign donation!

Like Newt? Or do his non-elected activities after being in the House qualify him more?

I agree. And she can be proud that she ran a serious campaign and was a contender, just as much as Santorum was. It could have gone a lot of different ways. But she was never someone who couldn’t get out of the front gate, like Huntsman and whatzhisname.

I completely agree except the part about supporting Perry. I do think Michele is one classy as well smart woman. She will prove to be an asset to who ever picks her for a position in their administration should a Conservative win the race.

Good. If she’d dropped out a little earlier, then Mittens wouldn’t have edged out Santorum.

Too bad Rick Perry came back in. Another spoiler. And he just released some more Santorum smears, too, at the critical moment.

She will not be chosen as a VP candidate.

I do, however, want her to hold onto her House seat. She needs to focus on that. She’s only been a rep for 5 years, and she needs to get a House leadership role and then contend for Minnesota senator or governor.

With that experience under her belt, she’d be a formidable presidential candidate. She has some of the iron lady hiding in her, but inexperience prevented her being able to show it. Instead she had to keep repeating it, insisting on it.

Regardless of who she officially endorses, the majority of her supporters will go to Santorum with the remaining to Newt or Perry.

This will hurt Mittens in SC and FL since the conservative vote will be more united behind fewer candidates.

There goes the last hope for a candidate who could be trusted to really pursue a true conservative agenda.

The 2012 presidential election will now be just another where we get a choice to vote AGAINST the worse candidate instead of FOR a candidate we believe in.

Money talks, well you know the rest. It became apparent to Bachman that her chances of raising any money after yesterday have disappeared. Anybody that thinks Perry has a chance, needs to get off the mind altering drugs and take a drink of reality. Perry is young enough to run in the future, but not after he loses several primaries. He needs to limit the battle damage to himself. He’ll be out in days. Huntsman? Who’s that?

It wasn’t for a lack of trying on Michele’s part. She gave it her all and had a momentary rise, but it faded quickly.

She’s done grand things for the TEA Party movement and she’ll continue to do so.

What bothered me most about here is that she immediate attacked dogged whoever was in front at the time. Problem was she won the Iowa straw poll and had great momentum going into the first debate. She was the leader and had the perfect opportunity to run with the ball.

But she blew it. Instead of acting like a front runner she came across as a opportunistic harpy and fringe candidate. Except for one or two times she avoided Romney in all those attacks though he was in reality the strongest overall player the whole time. If she was not a stalking horse she sure looked like one. A conservative like her should have honed in on Romney 75% of the time.

I can’t abide a candidate that shoots themselves in the foot like that. I like her, don’t disagree with her on much, and think she had her moments in the debates, but her campaign was one long atrocious drama.

Because of “O”-the bar is now so low, it’s a joke

I set the bar well above the O-level. There are about 12,000,000 illegals in the United States, and none of them are acceptable for the office, nor are the naturalized citizens, those mot natural born citizens, or the 149,000,000 citizens who will be under age 35 on January 20, 2013. That leaves only 148,000,000 eligible Americans under consideration. When you eliminate the mentally retarded (3%), those in prison (1%), and those over age 80 (3%), that leaves only 131,000,000 who could reasonably be considered for the position of President of the United States. Giving Obama the benefit of the doubt, I'd say that several thousand of those 131 million are no more qualified for the White House than the current occupant of that formerly great position.

Romney is barely above average among those who might reasonably be considered, Bachmann, Perry, and Newt are in the top 5%, and even Ron Paul is above O.

That statement is so unfair. Did you even listen to her withdrawal statement? Bachmann is a woman of great dignity and fortitude. She was in the race because she believes in the good old fashioned American Values of decency which we have lost over the last several years. She has too much good character for you to even understand. It is a shame that people have lost the aptitude to understand who is a decent person, who they are and what makes them a strong character. I feel sorry for many on this site who just don’t get it.

When you are out of money, you are out. Oh, you can run around in a rental car and lose all the prestige you garnered when you were really in the race, but that’s not smart. The poor showing means the money will dry up immediately.
