I hope so too, as a backstop in case Santorum fades, at least until Super Tuesday.

Here is the link (to Rush's website) that appeared in the first line of this Examiner story:

Should have included that in the first place, but my HTML-fu fails.

Rush thinks positively about all the candidates with the possible exception of Romney. He also said he was sorry to see Bachmann go. It was hardly an endorsement of Perry - which is how it is now being spun by some folks here.

This is one time I’ll have to disagree with Rush.

Time to start focusing on Santorum.

"I hope he stays in."

Why, Rush? I know you like the guy personally, but he's simply going to split the conservative vote in South Carolina, which only benefits Romney. Perry has no hope of taking the state himself.

Bad day for Rush. He's off his game.

Well . it is clear that Rush sees his old pal Newt as a side show. He demanded his room key back and has switched to Rick. Today's love-fest is actually very funny. You are right, if rick stumbles Rush will need Perry.

I unplugged him in 97. Whines about the problems but never offers a solution. But he can sell some books.

If Perry would only attack and direct his campaign at Obama, he’d win. We’re all sick of this infighting and want to see someone who’s going to really take Obama on.

I think he was just being nice and polite. He did say a bit later that Perry staying in would probably benefit Romney.

Most of today’s show seems to be devoted to enjoying Santorum’s good showing.

Rush just mentioned a sound bite from the Santorum speech, a CS Lewis quote:

A friend is someone who knows the song in your heart and can sing it back to you when you have forgotten the words.

The significance of this quote is perhaps deeper for me than others. When my grandmother was in her declining years and had lost her sight, her speech and much of her hearing, my mother had a piano moved to the hall next the door to her room and would go to the nursing home and play for her every day. Even when she could no longer communicate, my grandmother would still hum the alto when my mother played the child’s hymn, Jesus Loves Me.

My mother knew the song in my grandmother’s heart.

They say that music is the last thing to go in dementia. It was for my grandmother.

I could’ve sworn I saw Perry stepping down last night? Didn’t he?

If Gingrich and Perry were to drop out, Romney's pac’s would gut Santorum like a fish within a week.

All the prime ad time for both NH and SC is already bought up, Santorum can't fight back, but Perry and Gingrich have ad time bought. Neither of them like Romney.

Nah, you’ll stick around to troll against Perry. It’s your only purpose in breathing in and breathing out.

No, but you're not exactly wrong to think that. He did the old "I'm gonna re-assess" announcement that almost always means "I'm out." But this morning he announced he was still in the race.

I certainly agree with critics who say that his initial "re-assess" announcement, at a dour post-Caucuses speech, was another misstep in a campaign that's had a lot of them. (Perry's a largely solid guy in office and obviously knows how to win in TX, but his national campaign has struggled to find its groove.)
