Romney ad: Obama appointees to NLRB are ‘union stooges’
By Josh Lederman - 01/05/12 09:17 AM ET

Mitt Romney is calling President Obama’s appointees to the labor board “union stooges” who practice un-American political playback, in a new ad his campaign is airing in South Carolina.

The release of the 30-second television ad comes the day after Obama installed three new members of the National Labor Relations Board, appointing them while the Senate was in recess to sidestep Republican opposition.

A day earlier, Romney claimed victory in Iowa’s first-in-the-nation caucuses, but his razor-thin margin raised prospects that the nomination fight will carry on in earnest past New Hampshire’s primary on Tuesday and into South Carolina, where Republicans will vote on Jan. 20.

“The National Labor Relations Board, now stacked with union stooges selected by the president, says to a free enterprise like Boeing, ‘You can’t build a factory in South Carolina because South Carolina is a right-to-work state.’ That is simply un-American,” Romney says in the ad. “It is political payback of the worst kind.”

Republicans have lambasted Obama and the labor panel for trying to block Boeing from building in South Carolina, a decision the panel said was made because of contract disputes with union employees in Washington state. The scrape was dropped last month after Boeing reached a contract agreement with the union.

“You’re seeing a president adopt policies which affect our economy based not upon what’s right for the American worker but instead what’s right for their politics,” Romney says.

How long until someone says Romney would also appoint union stooges to the board? My guess: within 15 posts. :-p

I am so tired of these ill informed journalists saying these are recess appointments or appointments made while the Senate is in Recess. The Senate IS NOT in Recess and these appointments are unconstitutional. If this were a Republican President, the Democrats would be asking the courts for a restraining order. The thinking may be not to challenege these now and if the Republicans take over the White House in 2013, the precedent will allow the same thing to happen then.

There is a new Three Stooges movie coming out soon. The implication that Obama has appointed 'stooges'to the NLRB has a neat resonance with that IMHO. But maybe I'm reading too much into it.

The problem with your statement is that Romney would do exactly that. Moderates and libs cater to Unions, Conservatives don't - and Mitt Romney is NOT conservative.

______________

Yes, I am sure as the former head of Baine Capital, Mr. Romney has a soft spot in his heart for unions.

You can say a lot about Romney on social issues...but on labor and employment he would be rock solid.

Calling Mitt Romney solid on anything is like saying the same about quicksand.

Is that why he was unwilling to support Ohio when they tried to restrict collective bargaining of public unions?

Solid as a wet turd.

Romney is a socialist. He is Obama with an “R” behind his name.

Do you not realize this is just a position of political expediency? He is pandering to SC due to the Boeing deal. I can’t believe you would let yourself be fooled.

All the candidates are pandering. That is what politicians do. It is just like Newt saying he is going to cut federal spending in half. That is an obamaesque fairy tale. I can’t believe you would let yourself be fooled.
