SAN FRANCISCO -- Assemblywoman Mary Hayashi pleaded no contest Friday to stealing nearly $2,500 in clothing from the Neiman Marcus store on San Francisco's Union Square after a judge reduced the felony grand theft charge against her to a misdemeanor.

Outside court, her attorney said Hayashi had been diagnosed with a benign brain tumor before the shoplifting, and that the condition may have influenced her behavior.

Hayashi, 45, pleaded no contest to misdemeanor grand theft. She was sentenced to three years' probation, ordered to pay $120 to a restitution fund and $60 in court costs, and told to stay at least 50 feet away from the Union Square store.

Security guards at Neiman Marcus detained the Castro Valley Democrat on Oct. 25 after she allegedly walked out of the store with a white blouse, black skirt and leather pants in a shopping bag without paying for them.

misdemeanor grand theft? Over 50.00 I thought was a federal offense.

Oh I see, a benign brain tumor might have caused it.
They always have a good excuse.

Let’s see.

She is “sick” and her brain is not working correctly to excuse her from this crime...

But not so sick that she can STILL BE an Assemblywoman!

Of COURSE! DemocRATS BELIEVE in stealing! In fact THAT'S WHAT THEY ELECT THEIR POLITICIANS TO DO FOR THEM. They'll even steal votes in order to get their favorite criminals -- oops -- I mean candidates into office. And never, ever, ever feel bad about it.

tsk, tsk. A good Democrat is committing crimes???

In San Fran Nan’s backyard????

Pelosi told us that the Republicans had a culture of corruption. The implication is thus that good Democrats cannot be corrupt. Certainly committing petty crimes such as this is not something that a good Democrat would do...............

had been diagnosed with a benign brain tumor before the shoplifting, and that the condition may have influenced her behavior.

If a tumor can influence your behavior in this way, shouldn't it be grounds for disqualification from public office?

Oh, this is California.

Never mind.

and told to stay at least 50 feet away from the Union Square store...

Should have been ordered to stay at least 50 miles away from the CA statehouse, as any closer might endanger citizen taxpayer integrity.

reminds me of this gem...

RE: "I KNEW she was a DEM well before the article told me so."

I did not catch the connection to the Democratic Party until I read that a benign brain tumor causes the poor woman to behave like a OPM addict. So that's what is doing it.

If she's voted out, she'll probably try a discrimination suit under the ADA.

If that doesn't work, then it'll be, "RACISM/SEXISM!"

Lets see...a California assemblywomen with a brain tumor shoplifted from a NEEDLESS MARKUP store. I learned something new today - that is that Dems love to steal, if not money, dresses from N-M.
