Book depicts tensions between first lady, aides

New York Times reporter Jodi Kantor, in a book to be published Tuesday, portrays a White House where tensions developed between Mrs. Obama and former White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel and former press secretary and presidential adviser Robert Gibbs.

Among the book's most provocative anecdotes, Kantor recounts a scene in which Gibbs, frustrated after tamping down a potential public relations crisis involving the first lady, exploded when presidential adviser Valerie Jarrett told him the first lady had concerns about the White House response to the flap. The initial commotion had been over an alleged

remark by Michelle Obama to French first lady Carla Bruni-Sarkozy that living in the White House was "hell."

In another, the book describes how Obama, after winning a U.S. Senate seat and writing a best-selling book, "The Audacity of Hope," sought self-protection and privacy as he came to terms with his new fame. Some staffers came up with a

word to describe times when Obama couldn't connect with people: "Barackward," a combination of "Barack" and "awkward."

Now I get it, she doesn’t WANT another term, having to watch people do “all that for a flag (eye roll)” and so forth.

People know. For me, there seemed to come a time, maybe by the end of 2010, when nobody seemed to want to defend Body Odor anymore.

Personally, I think it’s “hell” because I believe she and Barry are on the outs

I never, ever believed the hype that they had/have a good marriage. I doubt they went into the WH with a feeling of love for one another. I am sure it was more like a duty for Michelle.

And I bet she made it known that her price for acting the role was to be given the right to do as she pleased, get all the perks she could, and be lazy. She cared little for learning proper etiquette befitting a woman in her position, or for dressing in a respectable manner. To boot, she continually nastily criticizes Barack in public. I can just imagine the sharp tongue she has for him when in private. And those girls, they always look so unhappy and obligated. Kids are not good at faking it for the sake of their parents. I don't think anyone in that family is happy.

Hence those awesome arms!

Thanks. That truly made me LOL - and it’s been a VERY long day around here. :)

I have concluded that insider is very likely real and affiliated with the clinton camp. Hillary is NEVER criticized by insider.

Also, it can be argued (subject to interpretation, but there is something there) that insider telegraphed the obl kill a week before.

That’s okay. At least the gist of the stories are making it into news print. And it isn’t pretty. The irony is that it was penned by an NYT reporter...think they see the writing on the wall yet?

Let me know when one of the Hollywood darling directors decides to do a movie like the one they did on GWB....

Some backround on the publisher: Little Brown, which is part of Hachette, which is owned by Largardere.

Interesting choice.

Makes me wonder what got spiked.

I agree with everything you say. I suspect Carville. At first I wasn’t sure, but as time goes on insider has proven to be right over and over and over again. I also think their loyalties like with the Clintons.... and honestly, at this point I would be glad to have the Clinton’s back. Those seem almost like good ole days, how sick is that?

Maybe, maybe, the American people and voters will get it through their heads that Michelle & Barack Hussein Obama are America haters to their very evil, despot, disgusting core, just like their icon beloved and adored minister, Reverand Jeremiah Wright, the Supreme, Black Racist and America destroyer & hater!!!

You know, with Robert Gibbs as press secretary and Michelle as Obama’s wife, Obama seemed to have, for a time, cornered the market on asses.
