January 8, 2012 Stephanopoulos struggles with fairness during NH debate

ABC News commentator George Stephanopoulos directed pointed, hard-edged questions to Republican presidential candidates during Saturday night’s New Hampshire debate, often attacking without providing evidence to justify his broadsides.

When questioning former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney, Stephanopoulos, a former senior advisor in the administration of Democratic President Bill Clinton, premised some inquiries on the assertion — offered without supporting facts — that Romney’s job-creation statistics were inaccurate.

“Now, there have been questions about that calculation of 100,000 jobs. So if you could explain it a little more,” Stephanopoulos asked Romney of the former governor’s claims about jobs created by companies he has helmed. “I’ve read some analysts who look at it and say that you’re counting the jobs that were created but not counting the jobs that were taken away. Is that accurate?”

“No, it’s not accurate,” Romney bluntly responded. “It includes the net of both. I’m a good enough numbers guy to make sure I got both sides of that.”

Stephanopoulos did not cite any analysts by name.

In another line of questioning, Stephanopoulos asked Romney if he believes “that states have the right to ban contraception, or is that trumped by a constitutional right to privacy?”

Romney responded by questioning Stephanopoulos’ logic and his choice to raise a hypothetical situation that would never happen.

I don’t think he “struggled.” I think he threw up his hands and ran headlong into advocacy.

Another GOP-nomination-oriented debate with a leftist loser as the questioner.

Who agreed to this? (Not blaming the candidates. I mean, what GOP organizations? Why don’t the candidates, or groups OF them, arrange debates moderated by conservatives or, at least, fair-to-conservative journalists?)

I generally don’t like it when the audience boos or jeers, but they booed when Stephanolpolous kept hammering away at that pointless hypothetical about states banning contraceptives. It was inane of him to continue that line of questioning, because we all know that the status of birth control will NOT be an issue in this presidential campaign.

I applaud Romney for shoving it back at Steph by saying that birth control is not an issue, that states are not planning to ban birth control (to paraphrase), AND then went on to question why in the heck Steph was asking about this subject in the first place. And Steph kept at it, to the understandable jeers of the audience.

It was a bizarre exchange that revealed Stephanopolous to be unprofessional and irrelevant. I’m not a Myth fan but he did a good job handling boy Steph.

In all fairness, he did ask Obama about Bill Ayers, because Steve Malzberg and Sean Hannity interviewed George the day of the debate and suggested he ask that question. George asked it, probably because he was a Hillary supporter. But, he didn’t ask the Democrats the same kinds of questions he asked Republicans besides that.

They spent Thirty-five minutes of the debate on Gay marrage and contraception. They really didn't have much time to talk extensively about anything else.

Rarely have I seen someone make such a complete fool of themselves as Little Stephie did last night.

In spite of liberal and media pressures on all of us to accept same-sex marriage, there is still a majority of Americans who oppose it. The answers by the candidates are in line with mainstream opinion. And there was nothing hateful or bigoted in their support of traditional marriage. The liberal view is that all who oppose homosexual marriage are hateful bigots, but bigotry was not expressed on this issue by these candidates.

Steph is an idiot. What was that all about, with the states having a hypothetical right to ban birth control? Romney rightly shoved it back at Steph, by saying no candidates are pushing this issue, nor are any states considering it. So why the heck would Steph take so much time in a debate on an issue which doesn’t even exist???

That’s another reason the Republicans are known as the STUPID PARTY and have no balls. They go to debates on the liberal / communist networks and think they’re going to get a fair shake. They should have all talked it over beforehand and had an agreement as follows: The first time one of the punk questioners start their s#it, they all literally say “This sux” and all walk off, leaving the network to figure out what to do with the time left and for them to explain to their sponsers why they paid the network for a NON- debate. But, of course that would never happen. Obama does it in a round-about way almost every day. Just look at last week: “Screw the Senate, the American people and the Constitution.....I can do anything I want because there’s not a single member of Congress who will do more than go on Hannidy and Gretta and spout off and talk about what they are going to do (which is ALWAYS nothing).”

Its Stephanopoulos, and its ABC. What do you want?

More embarrassing is the fact that Repubs fall for it again and again. If you let your ideological enemies organize and lead your debates for you, you get what you get. ABC and the other alphabets are the DNC. They are not biased toward the DNC, they *are* the DNC. They are DNC hacks and propagandists of course, but they are more than that. They are DNC.

So, let them run your debates and you’ll spend the evening talking about their issues instead of your own. You’ll spend your evening answering smarmy attacks from a “moderator” who thinks he is there to debate you, rather than helping you to get your message out. You’ll spend your evening answering “when did you stop beating your wife” questions instead of discussing your philosophy and your agenda.

This happens every year, many times per year. They sucker you into attacking one another instead of attacking their guy or really connecting with the public, and the Repubs line up to humiliate themselves again and again and again.

Its a death wish, really. Thats all I can figure.

They always pick these Rat boosters to host GOP debates. The result stumbles back and forth between comic and tragic. Why does the GOP put up with this?

Dems refuse debates hosted by Repubs.

So why do the Repubs agree to debates hosted by Dems?

Because the MSMedia is all Dem?

Did anyone else notice that the only candidate with a functioning microphone was Ron Paul, the Democrats favorite Little Princeling?
