FORT LEWIS, Wash – More than 100 soldiers were on lockdown Sunday after "sensitive" military equipment was stolen from a base in Fort Lewis, Wash.

The soldiers were put on lockdown Wednesday after items such as scopes, night vision goggles and range finders went missing from Joint Base Lewis-McChord over the holidays, myFOXSpokane.com reported.

Lewis-McChord spokesman Matt Hinkle said Saturday that the army was carrying out a criminal investigation into the 4th Brigade, 2nd Infantry Division after the "sensitive" items went missing, The News Tribune reported.

"They'll be on base until the items are found," Hinkle, who estimated the company contained about 100- 200 soldiers, said. "This is the unit's property that's come up missing."

Not the first time.
According to FBI investigative data, in April 2006 a Blood member and active duty soldier at Fort Lewis allegedly robbed a bowling alley on base and is a suspect in a home invasion robbery in Olympia, Washington.

More recently.....
Investigators discovered one of the stolen guns in Gonzalez's car at Fort Lewis.

Should be an easy case. Who signed for them last? Whoever had them signed out, or signed into his storage area, is responsible for them,,,,Period.
At least that was the USMC approach.

"OK, so the mullahs need some scopes, night vision goggles and range finders? Uh, OK. How's the drone working out?"

Hmmm. While investigators will, of course, need to consider all options, for starters, two likely possibly sources of influence for this crime come to mind immediately: Muslims and/or Mexican Gangs. The difference between the two is moot, as it has been demontrated that Hezbollah now apparently operates fairly freely south of the US border.

As I am just jumping, in I realize others have already made similar points — but this bears repeating, I would say!

Awright! Another rotorhead! UH-1H, and the OH-58 series here. Retired in 93.

I spent my last 7 years in an AH-64 Attack unit. We had the new (at that time) ANVIS/AVS-6. A pair came up missing once. oy. It was worse than losing an M-16 or M-60. We weren't allowed to even breathe until they were found.

Saw this on the news. They interviewed a couple of soldiers' relatives who were whining that the lockdown was "unfair."
Unbelievable.

Don't really blame them for "whining". I'd be livid if I couldn't go home to my family because some a--hole pilfered some gear.

Heh, heh! I flew Hueys in RVN and kept up my minimums in the OH-58A (aka the Frisbee) ever afterward since I am originally a tanker. RLO at first, break in service, retired last year as a warrant.

Think that AVS-6 lockdown was bad? Try losing a serial numbered cash collection sheet! AR sez the responsible officer gets a statement of charges for the maximum amount possible on the missing sheet (per diem plus meal cost). But the new Xerox machine and new whiteout came to the rescue and a new CCS was forged from the specimen in the AR and everyone re-signed it until the cash on hand balanced, both were turned in, and that was that.

Geez, I miss those days!

;^)

The military concept that all must suffer when someone screws up was POUNDED into us at Parris Island.
Obviously, not everyone grasps the meaning of that lesson.

Left a PVS4 out of its case after a FX.Armorer found out late.Platoon Sgt. wanted blood and C.O. wanted to hang me.Battalion was ready for four day weekend. It was in my humvee.I ran it back through our quad as hundreds of fellow soldiers gave me hell.Never lived it down but learned my lesson after “counseling”.It made me a better soldier.Been through many lock-downs.They suck.
